This is a place for all seasons.
This is a place for all seasons. The city is hospitable, multicultural and pedestrian friendly. It’s also very dog friendly. I noticed that dogs are allowed in the shopping malls and I saw dogs allowed in almost every shop including department stores.

I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city.
I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city. I went to see the opening night of the opera house's production of Wagner's opera "The Flying Dutchman". The musical and dramatic standard was very high, and it was a most memorable cultural experience. It is not just a beautiful opera house, it offers many fine productions year round. The city is only about 10 minutes from Dusseldorf airport, so easy to get to.
Apart from the Opera House (Theater Duisburg) I can't think of any other reason I would want to visit Duisburg. Pity that Booking.com does not list the opera house as the major cultural venue worth commenting on.

The harbours are awesome.
The harbours are awesome. I have never seen so many ships, cranes , containers in an inland harbour . Really good cycling paths, easy access to the Rhine and Ruhr. Good restaurants. I recommend Mykonos in Meiderich. Very friendly people. Some parts are in need of modernisation. Public transport very good.

What a horrible city!
What a horrible city! I’ve travelled all over Germany, visited at least 50 towns and cities, but I hadn’t been to Duisburg yet, so I figured I’d give it a go. Don’t bother! Apparently it’s one of the poorest cities in Germany and it shows. What a dilapidated, sad city. Even in the city centre there’s buildings that are falling apart, so many empty and abandoned storefronts. Inhabitants of the city appeared sad and bored as well, not exactly the friendliest folks in Germany. Not worth a visit, except for the amazing and free Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord. Definitely hit it up for a visit of an hour or two if you’re in the Ruhr area, it’s worth the drive or ride by public transit, but don’t bother with the rest of the city.
Small, friendly hotel. Parking directly outside. Rooms are medium sized. Kettle wuth various teas and coffee in the room. Comfortable bed. 2 chairs, which seems to be unusual these days. Friendly staff. Good buffet breakfast with an option of cooked eggs.
For an evening meal Balkanhof recommended which is just across the car park. Make sure to book a table. Very busy.
Third time we have stayed here, we like it. Good location next to commuter train station. Dog friendly, excellent Italian restaurant in the hotel, good walks round about, there is ample car parking outside but also an underground locked carpark which presumably is available at a cost. Spa facilities and gyms also seem to be available but we did not ask about those.
Very friendly hotel in a great river-side spot. The breakfast room has a great view across to the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers which we found very interesting. It made a good location to break a very long drive up the 3 Autobahn.
From the outside the hotel looks rather dated, but inside it was very nicely decorated and comfortable.
This company have taken the piss on me. They marketed this hotel with photos as being new but when I arrived it was a 25 years worn out hotel. It is false marketing and I would never pay that amount of money for this hotel. I ordered a nice and new hotel but got a old and dirty hotel room….
False marketing
Hotel is in walking distance to central station. Staff are very friendly and speak good English.
Melvin from the reception team who checked me in on arrival was very professional, and helpful with any questions I had about local area, restaurants etc.
A good buffet breakfast available for additional charge.
The staff is super friendly and helpful, felling welcome there. The hotel is quite modern designed, the rooms are quiet, useful and clean; like the shower even the bathroom is a bit small. The free Wifi is good in the room and speedy. For business traveler definitely to recommend and an ok value.
Nice and clean location near the highway to stop during a long trip across Germany. We could park our car for free in a fenced area near the hotel.
We had a superb wiener schnitzel in Webster Brauhaus, which is located a few hundreds meters from the hotel! Really worth the walk!
Old apothecary with lots of historical photos and artifacts inside. It wasn’t some boring old hotel. It’s a very authentic experience and the proprietor told us some good stories of the old days. Comfortable beds and plenty of fresh air in the rooms.
The staff at Hotel Friederichs was very friendly and welcoming. Also as a woman traveling alone I felt very safe. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is directly at the train station of Duisburg. The breakfast was delicious and various.
Easy parking in front of the hotel. Check in was quick. Our family room was comfortable. Breakfast was good - made to order eggs and waffles. Friendly staff.
My boys both received an Easter bunny when checking out which was a nice surprise.
Perfect location about 10 minutes from highway. When you travel during Europe and you need stop in the Duisburg area, this hotel is great because of private parking right next to the hotel. Very good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Amazing to have a swimming pool in a small suburban hotel. The manager was very friendly and helpful. Safe bike storage. Breakfast very good. Really appreciated the apples to take on our cycle journey!
Everything was perfect. Whatever you may require, it is there. Each time I needed, the owner support was simply outstanding. Should I come in Duisburg again, I'll be back here for sure.
The hotel is very nice, it looks like it was refurbished from a very old hotel, which I liked. You don't see much of that anymore. The breakfast was fabulous.
