Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAs others have mentioned, the bathroom was freezing! But I guess that's what happens with older style buildings. It was a minor detail and didn't really impact our stay.
Cute, boutique hotel in the heart of Darlinghurst, close to plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants and very easy to get elsewhere in Sydney. The rooms were private and actually quiet considering location (had a room to the back of the hotel) and slept amazing.

United KingdomArrived early and they accommodated my arrival by allowing me into room earlier than check in time. Front desk was friendly and chatty. Room was very clean, and great value for money. supplied Aesop products (which we love!) We’re playing wonderful orchestral music - very relaxing and elegant feel to the hotel.

New ZealandAs our room was downstairs we didn’t discover reception so never really saw a staff member other than housekeeping. That said everything went very smoothly so it did not matter.

AustraliaNothing - will always stay there when in Sydney
Friendly, accommodating staff, beautiful, quiet rooms with very comfortable beds. The hotel is in close proximity to transport, cafes, restaurants. The CBD is a short train ride away for access to Art Galleries, Theatres, shopping, more restaurants and Sydney Harbour.

AustraliaSlightly odd/damp smell on entering property (it had just rained that day, I have since read reviews that mention it is related to the cleaning agent that doesn't damage heritage properties), but this was not in the room. The bed was not as comfy as I had hoped, I did not have the best sleep. Wish there was an actual quilt cover over the quilt. There was a sheet, then a bare quilt, then another sheet. Unfortunately it would separate as we slept. It would be nice to have more hanging/drawer space for clothes in the main room (the wall kitchenette takes a lot of the space), and also enough space for both towels and the floor mat (which got soaked) in the bathroom. The TV did not have the option to cast shows onto the screen (though I would not expect a boutique hotel to necessarily have this function). This isn't related to the accomodation, but make sure to make a restaurant booking well in advance, as the good places don't have much space for walk ins during peak nights - and this is a great area to go out and eat!
My travelling companion really appreciated how friendly and helpful the staff were - in the end this is invaluable for a good stay! After hours check in was seamless. Shower was nice and hot, with a good pressure (though water did pool on the floor of the shower, rather than draining easily). The soap etc. smelled lovely. The plug points on the bed wall did not work, but then we discovered the many plugs on the bed, and in the kitchenette cabinet (many more plug points than at other properties). Great kitchenette if you need it - we did not. Spacious room, though hanging space was limited, as below. Very conveniently located for the needs of our trip.

United KingdomMinor points - the bathroom was perfectly functional but quite small. Our room opened directly out onto the lovely shared courtyard, which meant it didn't feel super private when we had the shutters open.
Fantastic location, comfortable room, helpful, responsive and friendly staff. We loved the proximity to transport links, and enjoyed Darlo Bar across the street, where they serve excellent Thai food.

AustraliaNothing really. It is worth noting that there are stairs because it is a terrace so lugging suitcases could be a bit of an effort for some rooms.
I have stayed at the hotel three times, and in three different room types. I absolutely love it. The location is perfect for me for where I need to be for work, it is close to restaurants etc... Most of all the rooms are more than comfortable with the perfect amount of amenities for an overnight stay. The afterhours check-in is a breeze.

United StatesWe had to carry our luggage up a flight and a half of stairs. After a long day of travel, this was no fun, but we also knew we booked a boutique hotel in an older building! Definitely wouldn't deter me from staying again or recommending the hotel to others, but some people would need to know this prior to booking.
Loved our stay at Medusa Hotel Sydney! The room was spacious and well designed, the amenities (mini bar, soaps & shampoos) were high end, and the location was great for nearby cafes, bars, thrift shops, and a scenic walk to the botanical gardens and opera house. We had to check in a little later in the evening--after my plane touched down in Sydney, I was pleased to receive a text with all the information I needed to get into our room after hours.
