How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Girl in bunk underneath me was awake all nite! Light on, phone not on silent so all notifications we could hear, kept going in & out of room, door banging so got little if any sleep. I stay at many hostels & this selfish woman was unbelievable. Despite earplugs! Anyway, love this hostel & I'll be back. Thanks - and I found the rooftop!!!

For some reason the reception area and common areas have a really strong bad fecal odor. I was here for almost a week total and it was pretty consistently stinky. The continental breakfast is pretty bare-bones, and they only have instant coffee. It's very very loud at night due to the traffic and trams screeching. You're not allowed to bring in alcohol.
I booked this hostel mainly because of the location and price and it did not disappoint on those fronts. The location is excellent, super convenient to Southern Cross station (and thereby the airport), the convention center, trams, Degraves St., etc. You can store your luggage in a locker for free.

The bunk bed was quite noisy and I had to leave at 6 am.

Bad smell on the ground floor. Rooms basic and dark. Lockers aren't free and there are a limited number available. Lift is pretty much always being used by people on the lower floors going down. Take the stairs, guys!
Good location for the railway station, so ideal for anyone arriving/departing from the airport. Competitively priced for Melbourne. Toilets clean and modern. Nice common area, though not the most sociable.

it was in a far corner of the city. if you weren't very savy with the public transport system it could be a bit confusing.
kitchen area was great. also had a bbq area on roof (utensils and plates avaliable.) billard table on the ground floor. also had it's own little bar area.

As mentioned my groceries were taken from me the day I bought them..probably because of no green sticker

Our room wasn’t cleaned and no linen changed even after putting the sign on the room (we were staying for 5nights). The bathrooms sometimes weren’t very clean, i think they could have been cleaned more often considering the amount of people using them.
Great location, close to the CBD, tram lines and everything you need! We had a private room and share bathroom, bedroom was clean and a great size, even had a fan and heater! Staff are helpful and friendly!

The common space may not be enough for all guests. Also, electric sockets are not suitably located in a room.

Bunk bed is noisy. At level 3 still heard lots noisy outside. The charger is not enough.
The environment and locations is good. Staffs also nice.

the noise from railway can be heard but still okay to fall into sleep, roommates were sleeping for whole day in the room and closed the curtain all the time... so that I cannot see the view
Great locaion, walking distacnce from Southern Cross Station, and close to CBD area, the price is cheap than most of backpackers, and the room is clean than i thought
