Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomMy third visit to the castelo. Please read my previous reviews on this hostel to understand why I loved it so much here. I hope that the vibe of the place stays the same if/when I return in the future! Thank you to Sol, Solenn, Constanza, Greg, Luan, and the rest of the volunteers for making me feel at home, hope to see you all again soon!

United KingdomIt can be a bit difficult sometimes to get an Uber back to the hostel late at night. If you have problems, just book an Uber to Gloria station and take a mototaxi up for 6 reais.
Second stay here and it was as good as the first. Beautiful castle, big dorms, great kitchen, great pool, great chill-out living room with Netflix, super friendly staff/volunteers. There is even a big co-working room.

GermanyAt the time I was there it was only possible to pay by cash. It would be an improvement if other ways of payment are possible. (At that time the hostel was opened two months before, so I think this will change in the near future)
It is an astonishing house, where you can choose to spend time by yourself or with other travelers. The staff is absolutely wholesome and they take good care of you. For example offer watching the sunset together. Also it is located in a quiet area, where you won't get disturbet by the noise which a big city like Rio brings with it. You can also watch tropic birds and monkeys from the garden. So the name stays to its reason. I recommend this hostel to everyone who plans a stay in Rio. :-)

DenmarkNothing, everything is super nice (I know that the cleaning lady was a bit occupied when I was there, but dear tucanos family, just make sure to keep cleaning always a priority). FYI be aware that generally in rio around that area it can be a bit difficult to get an uber at night, and as anywhere in rio it is recommended to be in a group when it gets dark.
I had an amazing stay at this beautiful castle! I stayed at the dorm, which was really spacious and clean, and the bed was super comfortable, showers have hot water :)! The staff is very welcoming and was always super helpful with ANY requests! There is such a great community in the castle, both guests and staff are really working well together and make you feel a part of the tucanos family! I felt always safe in and around the castle, never locked the doors, just as if it was my home! And when I needed someone to help me withdraw money at night, the owner supported me without hesitation! Highly appreciate that :) I think this place will grow very fast, and I cant wait to visit you guys again! Also they have a huge kitchen which was great for me, especially for longer stays 🫶🏻 I could speak hours about the architecture, the surroundings and the views, which are stunning!!

NetherlandsIt's an old castle and you can see they did a lot of work, but there are some areas that need some improvement. But I think they will get to this very soon!
Brand new hostel in a perfect (and safe) spot in Santa Teresa. It was one of the most special places we stayed in on our trip, a beautiful old castle with magical views. There is a pool, breakfast, nice people and Rio, what do you need more? Highly recommend staying here!

It is a unique building, old, big and very artistic- how it looks is reason enough to stay here! Big kitchen with a lot of space to cook. The castle also has many spaces for relaxing or socializing, like the pool, the living room and the garden. There is something for everyone here, either if you like to socialize a lot, chill in your own private space or if you are there to work while you travel. Great staff and great volunteers who really makes you feel at home. For me, this is one of the most unique and special hostels you can visit, do not sleep on this one and book your stay❤️

GermanyI know that they just opened a month ago and that they are still in a process and gonna add somethings…so the only things I would appreciate would be curtains for the beds and vegan breakfast options like overnight oats but that’s it!! :)
This Hostel is the most beautiful Hostel where I’ve ever been and the people who work there are soo kind and so welcoming☺️ The whole atmosphere was very different compared to other hostels, the kitchen was super clean, well organized and you just had the feeling you live there with friends. I also really appreciated how much they care about you and that they exchange numbers to stay in contact and make sure that you arrive safely when you go out in the evening. Thank you so much for everything, I will definitely come back!!<3

FranceAfter 3 nights spent in Orpoador / Zona Sul, we wanted to discover a new neighborhood during our stay in Rio... Located in the liveliest district of Santa Teresa, Castelos de los Tucanos offered us an incredible experience, what a nice surprise ! The private room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and our 3 windows overlooked a large swimming pool, a tropical garden and a breathtaking view of the entire city of Rio with even the Corcovado at the far end: wonderful ! The place is very quiet and close to all the local bars and restaurants, we loved all the places we went to. The team is friendly and particularly professional, we almost felt at home ! We highly recommend the Castelo de los Tucanos and, when back in Rio, we will return with great pleasure to this magical place !

United States of AmericaThe only (KEYWORD ONLY) problem I had with this place was that to get an uber (car) to or from the hostel was a bit tricky as it is on top of a hill. You kind of have to be a bit further away to be able to get an uber (car). Even then, you weren't really guaranteed anything. But in my opinion, a moto taxi (uber or one you find on the street) is more fun to get there anyways. This wouldn't stop me from booking here again though. if you're coming to or from the airport, i'd recommend booking an airport taxi as you'll be guaranteed to get a ride.
The property was so beautiful that pictures can't even do it justice. The view was amazing. The place was clean. The staff was so amazing. No words can describe the experience I had here, both with the people and the location. This is just a place you have to see for yourself. They even hosted cookouts and i couldn't have asked for a better stay in rio.

Bosnia and HerzegovinaOne of the kitchen fridges was broken and emitted a horrible smell, that made using the kitchen less than pleasant. It's actually a fantastic space, with a little bit more maintenance it could be perfect
When I checked in, I was like wow, this is an amazing historic palace, it's so beautiful. Unfortunately from then onwards everything was a bit of a disappointment. The mattress was very uncomfortable, and the wooden beds didn't seem super solid either. The bathroom had no working light as far as I could tell and was a bit difficult to lock. There is no Aircon ( very understandable in a historic building) but there aren't any mosquito nets on the open windows either, I got bitten a lot. I don't understand why the owner doesn't just install a net, it would be so simple. It's not fun to wake up with lots of bites. Location is Santa Theresa is super safe and amazing, there is even a security guard at the street entrance.
