The smaller room had a bathroom that was poorly aired. This made it stinky very fast and very difficult to dry out things, in a place that is in itself quite humid.

The facilities are very nicely maintained and tasteful. The bigger family room had a very nice terrace and all rooms have hammocks. Even if not very remote, lots of wildlife around.

Some of the garden chairs were so broken that it was nearly unusable. The refrigerator in the houses is quite noisy and since it is in rhetorical main bedroom it can be quite annoying during the night.

Located in the rainforest. We had the pleasure of getting visits from howling apes, hummingbirds, snakes and big spiders. All of them outside the house. The swimming pool was nice, clean and refreshing.

I did not like that the there were towels and bathing suits all over the lawns and all around the pool. I don’t think I got a decent picture where there wasn’t a pile of towels on the grass or next to the pool in the background. It’s too bad because the scenery is gorgeous but it looked super cluttered and messy.

The property itself was beautiful. It was surrounded by so much nature.

the bed gave me a terrible back ache, i almost changed hotels because i was in so much pain. The sheets had holes in them, there was something sticky where the closet door slid closed. I didn't get the tv to work, but i didn't spend too much time on it either.

The plunge pool is temperamental and they struggled to heat it. Not a big deal but a bit tantalising to have it but it not work properly. But even without this we had a fantastic stay here.

We stayed in the deluxe bungalow as a family of five. Really enjoyed the outside cooking and eating area. Well equipped and a joy to be in while looking out at the garden and various wild life. Pool is a good size. Gardens great to relax in. Staff very friendly. Beach an easy walk, beautiful with few people. There was often only one or two guests staying so like having our own villa!

The houses / rooms are a little dated and dark (surrounded by forest). In the wet season, not having closed windows wears the room, making it slighlty humid (in the smell and the bed sheets feeling). Still you're in the Caribbean, and even in low season the feeling is always hot. There's no AC, only a fan. Again it works very well airing the room and above all it is silent. Houses are self catered and there's not a breakfast option.

Casa Merlin consists of some houses scattered on a closed property in the middle of a forested area. If you priviledge quietness, this is a very nice option. The house windows don't have glass but simply a mosquito net, which you can take it as an advantage, as we did, if you're into the sounds, smells and breeze of the forest. The house is very spacious and well prepared. You're around 4 km from Cocles and 8 from Puerto Viejo. If you have your own transport or make use of the plenty offer of tuk tuks, prefer quietness over busy hostel/hotel life this is a good option.

The gardens need a little more love! Some plants needed trimming, the grass was some how a bit too tall… Behind the pool was messy… a lot of things outside of one of the “rooms” things just hanging out there. Need to put things on storage or in order. The people next door where so loud, in the morning couldn’t sleep late because I can hear all their loud conversation. Shared kitchen needs some cleaning and maintenance.

The rooms are comfy and nice and very clean. The pool is nice to use at night after going to the beach. Great size fridge, great programming on TV, loved the room smell and the little odor machine that will make the room smell great.

The staff were great. We needed to order an early morning taxi and the hotel owner offered to give us a lift if it didn't turn up. Really great people. Good beach 5 min walk.

Dog poo in grounds around pool. Some of the chairs and loungers could do with replacing. Generally, some areas need a touch up. Towels were changed every day but during our 5 night stay the sheets weren't ever changed.

Good location. Nice and quiet. Some restaurants in walking distance. Renting a bike is a good option for those without a car. Close to beach, just a short walk through the forest. Pool is good to have. Surrounding flora is nice and can see some wildlife. Room was ok. Liked having a patio area to sit of an evening.
