Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkNothing not to like, but there is perhaps an issue with the drinking water provided in the room. The container gets sunlight during the day and it had a strange taste and smell. I drank from it. My girlfriend did not. I now have serious stomach problems and she does not. I cannot say for sure that this water is the cause.
Breakfast was excellent and so was afternoon coffee with sweets. Which was free by the way. There is a shuttle bus which will take you almost anywhere in the city and pick you up again! And it's free! Ubud is noisy, but from this hotel you cannot hear any of it. The garden is like a botanical garden with ponds, and they have their own little rice field. Rooms are an experience in themselves. The design is gorgeous. Never saw anything like this. Staff is helpful at all times.

New ZealandNothing comes to mind given the character and style of the accommodation
There was nothing to dislike about this place. It seemed like traditional Balinese accommodation modified for tourist comfort to a high standard. Service to the room was excellent, the gardens a haven of tranquility from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Whilst there was no direct catering on site, meals were brought in from associated establishments locally, that was in no way detrimental to the quality or the service. It was a stay we'll remember for all the best reasons

AustraliaNothing,my favourite Ubud place, hence stayed there 4 times. My mother did say the extra bed was not as comfortable as she would have liked.
I love the villas and Balinese decor. The staff are super helpful. Breakfast is wonderful and you have a choice of it being delivered to your room or eating in the Cafe area. Complimentary afternoon tea is a great addition. A shuttle service is also available. Easy walk to town too alongside Monkey Forest. A good choice of restaurants in walking distance. Spa is lovely too.

It was very nice and relax place away from noisy main street. I usually waked up with birds sounds and it was very nice to see a small rice farm in middle of hotel area. Staff were amazing and friendly. I defiantly will come back for another stay.

AustraliaThe only downside with young children, is accessing the centre of town. As I understand you can walk through monkey forest, but not with kids. We made the use of the free shuttle, which was fabulous, but be mindful that with traffic it can take 20 mins + Be mindful. Ubud centre is BUSY! We preferred taking day tours outside of town.
Our children were happiest walking around the gorgeous gardens, talking to the beautiful staff and swimming in the pool. Walking distance to a calm street with a great choice of restaurants.

The space is amazing in a true Bali arhitecture. Near the city centre but really quiet and you feel that you are in the jungle. The villa is in a huge garden looking to a ravine with private pool. Trully amazing!

CanadaAmazing attention to detail in every aspect. The architecture alone is worth staying at Alam Shanti. Then add the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, nice pool, and great breakfast. Favorite place in Bali so far. We wanted to move in!

NetherlandsI can’t say this because I love de luxery of simplicity and Good taste. But I can imagine if you look for a special kind of comfort .. Maybe a more western orientated hotel could be more safe..
If you love Bali then you love this place.. This is Bali. Then the location is peaceful and also close to the centre. Food around is amazing Yoga all close..

United KingdomNot a lot really. I would definitely go back or recommend it to others.
Nice location, quiet and away from overcrowded centre of Ubud. But plenty of good bars and restaurants close by. The accommodation really exceeded expectations. But the best thing about Alam Ashanti has to be the warm, friendly staff who always greeted you with a smile and a chat.

The stay was great as part of our trip. The staff was very helpful and attentive, one day when we left early in the morning for a trip, they had prepared a breakfast-to-go for us. The room was clean, beautiful and with an amazing view of the nature surrounding us. When we came back, we were greeted with a smile every time and they even offered coffee or tea - every single time! The pool area was great, we had a late breakfast there one day, the staff brought everything there and checked from time to time and gave refills on coffee, water, tea.. All in all, can really recommend this for a stay during a longer Bali trip, or as a sole stay for your entire trip. Thank you once again, you made it magical for us!

PolandNice, green, quite place next to Monkey Forest. Great breakfast which can be eaten on an apartment’s terrace. The street is less crowded than others in Ubud, but still you have plenty of choice - food, laundry services, massages etc are available in really good prices

CanadaWe loved our stay at Alam Shanti! We stayed in the Indus room which was beautiful with all the Balinese architecture. The veranda was beautiful and we saw monkeys every morning in the trees. The staff also kept the monkeys away while we ate our breakfast, so we didn’t have to worry about them. We enjoyed a great breakfast and afternoon tea and cake on the veranda. The staff made sure I had gluten free bread and cake in the afternoon, as I have Celiacs which was so appreciated! The staff were so kind, helpful and friendly. While the Ubud area is very busy, Alam Shanti is in a quiet location and felt like an oasis! We are so glad we stayed here!

GermanyThe staff is great they make the hotel feel very familiar, the hotel is not the newest but it is very well maintained. Even though you can find many restaurants close by, because of the gardens and the spacious layout of the hotel, you will feel very private. It was the best hotel we had in Bali, i paid the same or more in other areas and they were not nearly as good.
