Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaYou can go to the pena castle by bus 343 you dont need to pay €13 unless you want to see the moorish castle as well.We couldnt get tickets to go inside the castle BUT you can still get tickets for the gardens you still get to see the outside which is pretty good.

PortugalI didn’t find anything to complain about
Great location, supermarket and restaurants close, less than 10 minutes walking from train station and main bus station. Also, just in front of the hotel there is a bus station from which local bus goes to Cabo da Roca! The room and private toilet was clean, very nicely decorated (it gave me a little bit feeling of a cottage style room which me an my family loved). It had towels, body soap + hand soap, small bottled water, coffee and tea and kettle. I want to add, that room is very quiet during the night, no issues with noise from outside (at least in our room) All building is quite charming, with beautiful Portuguese tiles in the corridor, and places to seat on a little side terrace. It felt like the place despite the more traditional, cottage (?) style is well maintained and doesn’t feel old. The owner speaks English and he was very helpful and welcoming. He recommended us places to eat which we tested and were delicious and reasonably priced. The staff working at reception is just wonderful. The lady who did our check in was a sweetheart. She showed us a map of Sintra and market the locations which we should visit. Later this evening we bought a bottle of wine forgetting that we didn’t have an opener, thankfully we could borrow the opener from the reception. We could also leave our luggage at the reception after check out until our bus back to Porto which was extremely helpful to enjoy our full day off sightseeing. As additional pro- just outside the hotel, down the stairs, there is a cafe that has the same owners. We could have a snacks, great coffee and fresh orange juice first thing in the morning while sitting outside. In overall, this place exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to everyone. Truly wonderful place to stay on your wonderful visit in Sintra.

CanadaIt was on a busy street but there was a view of the Pena Palace from the balcony which was nice. Parking was in an informal unpaved lot next door where sometimes you could get parked in.
The room and bathroom were very spacious.

United StatesCould hear some auto noise but I suspect those in Sintra Centre heard this as well.
Large, clean room. Comfortable; easy in-and-out. Was about 600m from Sintra Centre where you catch bus 434/435 circuit. A few nice restaurants & bakery just north of hotel; away from centre town. Was a great value stay.

United KingdomBed could have been more comfortable, but was good.
The room had everything needed. A small TV. Good shower. It had a radiator, so the room was lovely and warm (the weather was very cold and wet). Location was very good. You have to park elsewhere, but the car park was free. Very friendly staff. Easy to use.

CanadaVery hard to find as accommodation looked nothing like the picture! Drove past 3 times before parking in gravel lot. Got out and found Pielas house when walking. Not what we were expecting but it was great!
The location was great! Really close to the Historicall District. We parked the car and walked- thank goodness because traffic was awful and parking non existent! Room clean and comfortable.

RussiaThe mattress on the bed is too soft and all the night you are rolling to the center as if to a pit. All the sounds from the corridor were herd as if everything is happening in your room (luckily overall the night was very quiet. I just herd one guest arriving late at night to the room opposite mine). The heating worked perfectly and you can regulate the temperature. But sometimes the radiator became noisy (in this case just adjust the temperature regulator and it will be ok) There is no wardrobe and the room lack the place to put o hang clothes (but there are racks for outdoor clothes) But these are unimportant drawbacks. The place is great to stay in.
The place is amazing and very convenient to get to and to look around the city. The hotel is on the first and second floors (on the ground floor there is the host's cafe). It is situated between two stations in Sintra: 10-minute walk from Portela and 20-minute walk from the train station. The checking in was smooth. The host was very hospitable. He explained everything about the hotel and tourist attractions and how to get to them. And provided a small map. The room is great! Good windows with double glazing and wooden shutters inside the room, wooden floor, flawless linen and towels. Great bathroom with small shower cabin. It was very warm!!!! In the room there is a radiator with the temperature regulation mechanism (we visited Sintra in December so I was afraid of feeling cold in the room at night) A great place to stay. Highly recommend!

United StatesHonestly no complaints just wanted to mention the parking situation. To be expected there wasn’t much parking but the owners were more than happy to help us find parking in a small lot near by. There is also free parking in the lot across the street from the train station which is an easy and quick walk away.
The room was very clean and comfortable! We got lucky with a beautiful room that had a small balcony looking out into the street with a view of Castelo dos Mouros. The location was great! We were able to walk to some of the castle. The bus stop for the other castles was an easy walk away as well. Plenty of restaurants and shops near by. We only got to stay one night since we were flying home the next day. We wish we could’ve stayed longer.

AustraliaThe wifi is a bit weak, we need to open the door of the room to get better reception. It would be great to have a communal kitchen. Nonetheless, the above aren't deal breaker, we did enjoy our stay.
The guest house is conveniently located 10 minutes walk from Sintra Train Station, which are the terminals of bus lines 434 & 435 (indeed run by a private company), as well as the stops of other cheaper bus lines (yellow buses run by the municipality) going to all major sights in Sintra. If coming from Lisbon, the second last train station is even better as it's only 3 minutes walk from the guest house. If going to Sintra's historic town centre and the magnificent Sintra Palace, it's a very pleasant 25 minutes stroll. We were given a spacious room at the back of the building so it's very quiet at night. The room is very clean, equipped with a kettle, and a variety of tea bags are provided. To our pleasant surprise, the guest house also provides daily room cleaning. The very friendly host runs a busy cafe downstairs so it's no problem to drop the bags early before check in, or store the bags for a few hours after check out. It's really helpful.

Czech RepublicWe were happy here. We could just hear neighbors taking a shower through the wall but that´s quite common issue in most of accomodations. Not a big deal. If you have a car, we found closest free parking 10 mins walk from house.
The vila is in perfect location for exploring around. You can reach Sintra old town by feet, Lisbon by train (station just 10 mins walk) or beaches by Bus (stop just in front of the house). And mainly, the manager Manuel is very nice person and attentive host. He runs also a cafe in the house, accessible from the street. We especially enjoyed the morning atmosphere in the cafe by breakfast. You can really feel this place is part of daily local life.

Germany-
I had a wonderful experience staying at this hotel. The room was exceptionally nice, and the bathroom was clean and spacious. Despite arriving late, the owner kindly waited for us and was incredibly sweet. He even provided us with valuable advice on nearby dining options and how to get around the area. Additionally, the hotel has a small parking space, which you should request in advance if needed. An added bonus was having a water boiler in the room, making it convenient for a warm cup of tea. I highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable and pleasant stay.
