Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt could get a bit loud in the night because of people singing on the street.
It’s a very special place in the heart if Lisbon. I loved all of it, especially the breakfast, the lovely people working here that give those beautiful rooms soul and love. Always very welcoming and heart warming. The rooms are pretty, in some it might can get a bit loud during the night due to a bar close by. But the stuff helped with that, too. The spa is lovely and the garden is a special place, having a glass of red wine, meeting other guests and enjoying life. I stayed a week here and will surely come back.

United StatesI wish the staff knew more about the history of the building. The staff were phenomenal, but this was just a little lacking. Or maybe a placard with some history would be nice!
This place is not just a hotel, it is an experience. Every corner of the building is ornate and decadent. I went with a friend of mine and we felt like we were princesses. The rooms, the spa, the breakfast with live violin/piano, the free wine tasting/cheese, the dinner with Fado, the location in the city, the dedicated staff, etc. I'm going to send my parents one year for their anniversary or something.

SerbiaThere is none.
The stay was phenomenal. The service from the staff was excellent. Special compliments to Marcos at the reception who was very kind and interested in helping with the choice of how to see the city, as well as compliments to Clara who is the PR of the hotel and a wonderful Fado singer who gives tourists an insight into the history and what Fado is. Every morning, the day begins with the sound of the piano and violin, so I recommend experience. The Palace Hotel has and is long owned by one family, and everything in the facility represents how it used to be in the old rich houses of Lisabon. It's like you're in a fairy tale.

CanadaIt’s really weird to have a hotel that’s colonizer themed. My room was in a stunning location in the hotel, other rooms are in the servants quarters areas with tight hallways.
Room and building amazing.

United KingdomThe beautiful garden closes after 10pm, and with the sunset at nearly 9pm it would have been nice to return to the hotel and linger there. I was confused with another black guest at reception and dinner - it didn't cause any problems but a heads-up for any other visitors.
What an absolute joy to stay here! I booked this for a solo birthday trip and it couldn't have been more special. I wanted to wake up in a princess room for my birthday and it certainly delivered. The hotel itself is impeccably maintained and stunning. You are made to feel like it is your home and you can wander and explore as you please. On my birthday the staff took pictures for me at breakfast and did a special serenade to sing and play happy birthday on the violin at my table, with a candle in a cake. The wine in the cellar was wonderful. I am not a red wine drinker but enjoyed all 3 that I tried. Everywhere you go in the hotel you are treated by the staff as if you are the only guest. They always have time, kind words and good humour to share with you. In particular, Diogo made a special effort to make me feel welcome on my birthday, Maria Carla helped me navigate the city and was so flexible helping me to book dinner and spa treatments, Ronda the masseuse was lovely and attentive at the spa, Carlos the waiter for dinner was a treat and Carla's Fado singing was the icing on the cake after seeing her host breakfast every morning.

United KingdomThe room was a little small and air conditioning started to make a vibrating noise after it had been on a while. However it was quiet and comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Of particular note was Carla who just made things happen. she was friendly and happy to assist with any request. The building was very interesting and historical. A great atmosphere, great hospitality but its greatest asset is the excellent staff.

The hotel is all about the insides and the people. It's an old building so the services fit around the architecture. And it works. There is a small pool, a lovely garden, a wine cellar, breakfast was exceptional (including live music), our room was great...but the best thing is the staff. Helpful, friendly, funny: reception walked us to our room which became a guided tour of the building...and everyone smiles.
