Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

CanadaThere was bed bugs happily “walking” on the sheets the next morning when we woke up. When we mentioned to the Reception, he said “yeah” we have a few. We also saw an other bug in the bathroom. The hotel is poorly maintained and they know!
The location was perfect as it was very close to the Laguardia airport. There was as Dunkin' Donuts across the street.

United StatesThe furniture in the room was dilapidated, the ceiling had unrepaired damage from a water issue above, the paint on the walls was peeling in the main room and bathroom, the bathtub was stained, the doors were falling of their jambs and could barely close, one towel they gave me was missing 15% of its material, and it smelled musty. I realize it was an inexpensive option, but in retrospect, I slept poorly as a result and it would have been worth it to pay $100-$150 to stay at a more reputable place.
The cost was low, but it was not low enough for the poor quality of the facility.

MadagascarWe had a no smoking room, but as soon as one entered the room there was a strong smell of cigarettes. I mentioned this to the receptionist at checkout and he said that in the final billing 25% of the charge would be removed. This has yet to happen.
No breakfast was offered with the room.

I didn't feel safe and the person at the front desk charged me twice for the room saying my card had been declined on Booking.com. When I checked my statement, I saw that the charge was indeed made so I returned to him and asked him why he charged me twice and he said that my "expedia" reservation hadn't gone through but my Booking.com had. I didn't understand and asked him to please refund me for one of the fees and he was condescending in saying that I had made two separate reservations when I hadn't. It made me not only distrust the property, but distrust Booking.com

United StatesThe hotel was very run down, the floor swayed when you walked on it (2nd floor of 4 story building). The shuttle that was stated available 24 hours a day looked like it hadn't been used in quite a while and was not in service. It was also directly under airplane path so planes were incredibly loud. For the price and from photos, I assumed we were getting something decent but it was an unpleasant stay. Thankfully we only needed to be there for 8 hours.
There were beds to sleep in and some space to put our luggage. It was also very close to the airport.

United Statesthe reception area, hallways and our room were all very dirty. they had not been vacuumed let alone shampooed in weeks. there was trash in all the hallways and the floor in the room was covered in food crumbs and trash. the bathroom door appeared to have a feces stain and again the floor was not clean. there were only 1 towel and no washcloths I would not drink coffee from the dirty pot.
the check in agent was friendly and helpful. the sheets were clean.

United StatesVery outdated, and was unsure of the cleanliness. Our flight was canceled and we had to stay overnight. Our choices for hotels was $400 a night or this one for $200. The bed had no fitted sheet, only a bed sheet covering the mattress, and the mattress did not look very clean. We were only there from 10pm to 5am, but we should have booked the $400 hotel.
Was available on short notice, and the staff was friendly.
