Cairns is both a hub of activity and a gateway to adventures within a few hours of travel.
It has an ambient climate with all the services and culture you’d expect of a much bigger city. There is so much to do in cairns and the public transport system is both convenient and well run.
There are so many adventures to be had on the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island and Fitzroy Island. Mission Beach, The Atherton Tablelands and The Daintree are all a day trip from Cairns.

Positive: Skyrail and historic train, nature, pool in Cairns, boardwalk, Botanical Gardens (absolute highlight!!!). Don't miss Emerald Creek Ice Creamery - lots of varieties and very yummy! Dundee's restaurant offered outstanding food and an incredible venue with a massive fish tank to look at while dining, it's pricey, but worth it. The Daintree is as exciting as ever. Solar Whisper Croc Cruise was really good. Daytrip to Atherton Tablelands was lovely. Rusty's market is a must! Only downside of Cairns: dining is fairly expensive in general.

We went at the start of the dry season.
We went at the start of the dry season. The weather was very warm but still humid.
Cairns central has great public facilities.
The swimming lagoon is fantastic for all ages and has surf lifesavers in attendance. BBQ cookers all along the Esplanade, excellent playgrounds.
Muddy Waters in particular, the kids went crazy.
Of course you go for the reef trips and the train trip and the Skyrail up to Kuranda village. A lovely day out in beautiful rainforest.
Port Douglas and Mossman are a drive north if you have the time, they are another must see in this scenic part of north Queensland.
A drive up onto the Tablelands opens up a different part of the area. Natural and historical attractions. It's worth the drive.

A worn and sadly lacking site.
A worn and sadly lacking site. It has all the hallmarks of investors who rake in the money but don't spend any money or maintenance and improvements. They could raise their star rating if they cared to invest in renovation., The lady at the front desk was very friendly;y. What a shame she has to represent such a sad venue.

The environment in general is the thing I liked the most.
The environment in general is the thing I liked the most.
There is little opportunity to interact with people outside of those in our circle of the delegation, including the hosts and those slotted in the program, during that trip. I would like to see more people to people interaction.
Friendly staff, very helpful! Very close to the hospital! Had to fly from Sydney to Cairns due to family emergency. Whilst circumstances weren‘t great we had a very convenient stay and we thank 181 The Esplanade for accommodating us the way they have been! Very grateful that we were allowed early check-in and were able to book additional days on day by day basis as we weren’t sure how long we would have to stay!! Thanks again!
Pool facilities were lovely. Apartment was very spacious with a nice view!!
We were met by Jackie and shown to the apartment. She took time to show us everything. A great studio apartment that was exceptionally clean and well equipped for any level of self catering if needed. The Nespresso machine was an added bonus. Located just minutes from Cairns Central shopping centre and the Cairns railway station. An easy ten to fifteen minute walk and we were on the waterfront where there are lots of great restaurants. Perfect accommodation we will definitely use again. Thanks Jackie
Superb room and bathroom, all modern, well maintained and clean, hotel is right next to the marina and the lagoon / esplanade
But highlight is undoubtedly the friendly family team running the hotel. The manager Peter couldn’t have done any more to make my stay more enjoyable - from a fuss-free early check-in, to booking all my planned activities for me (at a discount - including a scuba trip to the Great Barrier Reef).
Thanks again for a fantastic stay - nowhere else I would book in Cairns.
The unit is centrally located, walking distance to woolies in the cbd, plenty of cafes nearby for coffee and meals. Having the boardwalk right in front encouraged me to explore the esplanade - something I didn’t do when I lived in Cairns.
The unit has all the basics for a stay of a few days.
Having the pool area to cool off each day was great, the bbq area was clean and useful for our family bbq.
I really did appreciate the late checkout - Ben was very accommodating.
Really appreciated the helpful friendly staff who went out of their way to show us where to find the best of Cairns and it’s many attractions. The hotel was so centrally located y yet quiet, within walking distance of shops restaurants and attractions and right across the road from the Esplanade and the best early morning coffee at Muddys! The room was so clean and comfortable, had great views and was very well appointed.
Everything. We were greeted by Peter at reception so well,he clearly knows the hotel and company so well and has exceptional customer service/people skills.
All the staff that we met were so friendly and smiling.
The hotel has nothing for us to complain about. The breakfast was exceptional, and we will always stay at the Hilton Cairns Esplanade whenever in the area from now.
Location was great. Just across the street from a large shopping centre and within easy walking distance to restaurants and the esplanade. Also close to Rustys Market and not far from the night markets. We caught the Spirit of Queensland to Cairns and it was only a very short walk from the train station to the hotel. Apartment was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
Good location as we had a hire car. Beds where really comfy and check in was good by the owner as we had to check in after hours which was a quick and easy process. The apartments were quiet and had everything we needed for our 5day stay in cairns. Secured car park which makes parking easy and close to all the shops by car.
Well-equipped room, with kitchenette and in-room laundry facilities. The room was very quiet, and the hotel is located on the fringe of the CBD. Esplanade, Cairns Central and CBD shopping and dining are all within easy walking distance. The room was very clean, and the staff knowledgeable and helpful.
The hotel is very beautiful, with two enormous pools. It has also a very nice garden, and a guest room which is very handy if you, like me, wake up too early and does not want to wake up other people in you room. Finally, the price is much better than most hotels in Cairns, it's amazing value.
The location of the hotel was excellent, walking distance to everything in Cairns. The view of the river and hills beyond was great and made sitting on the balcony a must. The buffet breakfast was good as they changed the options everyday so it was not just the same each morning.
An excellent location. It is within walking distance to the Esplanade and Cairns Private Hospital. I enjoyed the upgrade. Although the motel is showing it age in places, it is clean. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. The full breakfast was excellent value.
Location was convenient to the Esplanade and the airport. Room was spacious, comfortable and airconditioned with a sink, fridge and table and chairs. Onsite cafe was reasonably priced and convenient, unlike many restaurants in Cairns that are just expensive tourist traps.
Stayed in 1 bedroom apartment. A basic space with good balcony views of the Esplanade. A central position within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, the lagoon, galleries, city shops, etc. The hotel is very quiet & the staff are lovely. The apartment was very clean.
Good sized apartments which were well equipped for a family of four. Plenty of pillows and blankets! Close to grocery stores and a short drive to The Esplanade and other Cairns attractions. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.
Budget accomodation. Stayed one night prior to flying out of Cairns. Considering the budget price, this was a good option for a short overnight stay. Very clean with comfortable bed. Short drive to the airport. Not too far to walk down to the Esplanade.
The hotel is perfectly located, the room was perfect with a great view of the Esplanade and the sea. I like the fact that the rooms are not serviced daily from a sustainability aspect and allowing "sleep ins" to be uninterrupted.
The location of this property is its draw card. It is close enough to the city centre and the main attractions of Cairns and is cost-effective when compared to other properties in the same vicinity.
A great family-friendly resort. The pool was the highlight. The room was relatively clean. Great location with a 10 minute drive to the Cairns City, Esplanade and Night Markets. Good value for money
Looking for an affordable but nice place to stay? The Palm Royale is not in central Cairns, but is right next to the Raintrees bus terminal, which can get you all over the city in minutes.
