We live in Cairns, which is only a 5.5-hour drive away from Townsville. We use the town for quick get aways and shopping not available in Cairns.
Plenty of good places to eat with lots of variety from drive through to quality restaurants.
Getting around is pretty easy if you have Google maps or similar. It's very spread out and there seems to be multiple ways to get to some destinations.

Loved the area with friendly people everywhere.
Loved the area with friendly people everywhere. Went to the Museum which my Great nephew really loved. All hands on. Went to Kirwan Bowling and had a great time with all our extended family.
Also went to the Tavern and had a wonderful meal which didn't cost too much.
Spent time on The Strand at the Waterpark and all the kids had a ball splashing around.

It is a nice city surrounded by some rainforest, farmland and bush. Lots to see and do. I loved the museums. I loved the botanical gardens; the hill overlooking Townsville is five minutes drive away from the hotel and you can drive or walk up it. The esplanade is worth the walk. Lots of places eat and drink along it.

I live in the area and I feel it has a lot to offer by way of sun and beaches or beautiful rain forest with gorgeous fresh clean cool sometimes cold running waters at your fingertips to enjoy . Shopping and night life at bars cinema cafe restaurants or theatre, your choice .
Also NRL football stadium
The Hotel was very central to our needs and not far from the Magnetic Island ferry. It was a pity I guess by economics that there was no eating facility on the premises. The location allowed myself to review my early work days in Flinders Street finding many of the old buildings still maintained including a Bank where I first worked in 1964 just across the road.
My husband and I always choose to stay at the Oaks when we travel to Townsville. The location is great and we are always met by the friendliest staff. Underground parking is a bonus for us as it allows us to feel safe and secure when leaving our vehicle.
The rooms are always clean and beds very comfortable.
We booked a one bedroom apartment at late notice for the Easter Weekend, there weren't many hotels to chose from but this one did not disappoint. The staff were very attentive, the room was a good size, very comfy beds and good facilities, central to walk around the CBD of Townsville and main tourist areas.
Location was central to Palmer Street dining precinct with short walk to flinders and short drive to the strand.
The layout of the apartment was good and the air conditioner in good working order. Our room had great view over the river and Flinders street. The beds were also really comfortable.
The room itself was excellent, including the view, the location is great if you want to be near the city center, but that’s not where you want to be in Townsville, it’s a ghost town with the strand being the optimal area which was only a short walk from the hotel. Staff were great.
It was very clean and tidy. It's also walking distance from a nice fish and chips shop and from the start/finish of the Townsville Running Festival. The manageress was kind enough to allow a late checkout so that I could have a shower after running.
You really can't beat the location and price. The generously sized rooms and friendly staff are a bonus. The family rooms are great for inter-generational families as they have a separate queen room. This hotel ticks all the boxes in my book.
Great 2 bedroom apartment centrally located on the strand. Great ocean view of magnetic island. Superb kitchen and large lounge area. The beds were very comfy. Great pool that is well shaded by trees. Would definitely stay there again.
Great location and proximity to the Townsville Mater Hospital - unfortunately we were in lovely Townsville for medical reasons. Motel was close to Hotel and great breakfast place. Owners were very friendly and professional.
Good easy to find park at a great location opposite esplanade and beachfront. Only minutes away from most amenities e.g. hotels and takeaways. Excellent coastal walk to headland and old fort was nearby. Friendly locals.
A basic 3+ star motel with a great location. Centrally located on the Strand walking distance to beach, cafes & restaurants. Good secure underground car parking. Easy access to/fro Airport, CBD, museums, etc.
This place is very clean and comfortable. Great value for money. Located very centrally on Palmer street, close to a variety of pubs and restaurants, as well as being not far from the Strand.
Very spacious unit, 2 bathrooms and huge balcony. Swimming pool great with a shelter area, good gym, sauna and parking facilities. Washing machine and drier. Cafe just outside the hotel.
The location was fantastic for everything especially as it’s on the Strand which is the nicest area I Townsville.
The view from the room is spectacular
Just amazing place to stay
The quest was great location with shops opposite and one street away from the Strand , nice large clean rooms . Lovely staff . Comfortable beds and chairs .
