Salvador is fascinating and interesting for all the reasons you probably already know. There is much to do and see.
The only downsides are the high humidity and heat which makes day time explorations a bit taxing and safety issues. I found the main tourist locations to be well policed and safe, but if you stray from these you must be very careful. Ideally be in the company of local Brazilians who can help navigate the city safely.
I loved Casa da Mae in Rio Vermelho, great atmosphere, awesome music, nice food and safe.
I found the local people more reserved and more challenging to connect with than in Sao Paulo. I sense this is due to the 'tourist' nature of the city.

Carnival in Salvador, Bahia is a must!
Carnival in Salvador, Bahia is a must! You'll have to experience it for yourself. My favorite town was Rio Verlehmo, Ubers are affordable, and motorbikes, are the way to go. I enjoyed walking, you get to experience more of their stores, restaurants.

Salvador is an incredible place.
Salvador is an incredible place. Lots of history, culture and friendly people. Would definitely recommend as a destination. Just be sure to have some basic Brazilian Portuguese phrases handy, as English is not widely spoken at all.

We were warned by everyone, including hotel staff and friends, that Salvador is a dangerous place. This made it difficult for us to enjoy the city's beauty without any concerns. However, we decided to take a City Tour with a group to learn more about the city and identify the places we wanted to visit again. The city tour gave us a better understanding of the city, which helped us appreciate it more. Go to Pelourinho, Igreja do Bonfim and Farol da Barra.

We had an idea that this place was beautiful, but it exceeded our expectations. Every street made beuatiful pictures, there was a lot of history, music and dancing. At first, the hsitorical area felt very touristy but there are ways to get a more authentic experience. We will recommend to all of our friends traveling in Brazil to make a stop in Salvador.
The room was simply decorated, but again very cosy with the black and white accents and the plant there.
The size of the room was also perfect.
Unfortunately, it rained a lot during our stay in Salvador, but that did not stop us from exploring.
And yes, sometimes watching movies from our comfortable bed.
The hotel staff and owner were very friendly. Ismael in particular could speak excellent English. And we are curious about the result of his test ;-)
The hotel is in a great location, right on the beach and adjacent to the strip of restaurants and bar shops.
The breakfast is great with many options to choose from. The room was also excellent.
The hotel staff and housekeeping staff were especially kind and helpful when one of our party was sick during the night.
I would very much recommended staying here, and will choose this hotel again when we next visit Salvador.
It is a basic, small hotel but attractive, small grounds and an amazing view of the main part of Salvador. Room was tiny with 3 beds but very cheap and for one night it was fine. Central to Salvador but the surrounding street was full of litter. Check in was friendly and we were able to leave our bags in the attractive reception area. The receptionist was very very friendly and informative, too.
Usually do landmark hotels with family, but wanted to try something low budget and different for Salvador. This place was perfect with a human connection large hotels can't provide. The pool and breakfast although modestly sized were both delightful and full of character. We booked 7 nights and were sad to leave. And of course, what's not to love about free booze daily from 5:15 to 6:15pm?
The location was excellent, close to the beach, the lighthouse and the restaurants of Barra. The apartment was in very good condition, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities.... a tidy kitchen, a lounge, bedroom and bathroom. I never met my host, but she was exceptionally helpful over WhatsApp, and speaks English, which is a bonus in Brazil. I highly recommend this apartment.
Fantastic property with beautiful view of the ocean and the city. Everything was clean and felt fairly new. Very comfortable bed and large room. Pool area was great as well with wonderful drinks and service and of course an amazing view. Also had a great view right from our room. Breakfast was great and right below the hotel is an area with several restaurants and live music.
Always that I visit Salvador, I go to this small and charming Inn in a nice historic neighborhood. The place is clean, friendly staff, comfy room and a nice and delightful breakfast. Location is good and the wifi works fine. Very gay friendly. They have a classic music choir that gather every Monday. It was very good to hear some pieces from Bach and Mozart.
Very good breakfast with an egg and tapioca station, good variety of fruits, cakes and bread. The rooms are comfortable and all staff very kind. My stay was during the carnival and the location is perfect for those who want to enjoy the party as the hotel is 2 minutes walking from the circuito barra-ondina. The area around the hotel always felt safe.
That's my second time at the hotel. The staff did a really great job! Loved the bedroom and the bonus services that came with it. We stayed at the premium room at the 8th floor, everything was perfect! They have bungalows at another pool that you can make a reservation and spend the morning or the afternoon there, it's great for couples.
Probably one of the most qualitative hotel in Salvador, ideally located between the city and the northern coastline. The hotel services and installation are international level, very qualitative. We stayed as a familly with 2 kids and the hotel had everything for them too: playground, swimming pool, animations, a lake with turtles, etc.
Location is great, close to the best urban beach in Salvador (Praia do Porto da Barra), Rio vermelho district where you can find amazing restaurants and bars and if you are in town during carnaval - location is even better - you are a few steps away from all the fun.
The owner Ana is super nice and flexible.
This really is a lovely property, and I was glad to return 15 years after my last visit. The traditional Brazilian breakfast is very well-done. The artistic use of tile, and original works of art by local luminaries in the lobby add an element of charm.
Best features of this hotel are the infinity pool and the restaurant.
Pool makes for amazing sundown pics and nice relax environment after visiting warm and hectic Salvador center
Breakfast and food is great and so is some of the restaurant staff
We stayed at the hotel in 2009. The hotel remained excellent as in 2009. This fact is more than impressing because the conditions in this part of Salvador are exceeding a lot of work and dedication. The hotel is an oasis!!!!!!!!
Good but simple hotel on a nice location near the center. Not expensive and very helpfull attendants. We were only two days in Salvador but it served as a good base for city trips and beach walks.
Very good location next to the beach and supermarket close by. Quite secure and close to every neighborhood in Salvador. Very nice staff. I would certainly return again. Very nice breakfast
I loved the beach front appeal and how much effort they put into breakfast. The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of Salvador and extremely safe with an almost private beach.
Staff is quite accommodating. I was sick during my stay at Salvador de Bahia and they gave me free late check out. Plus they readily provided directions everywhere I wanted to go.
Great hotel staff, always helpful and English speaking (not common)
The hotel gives the feeling of Salvador. The building is beautiful, decoration is authentic
