You have to visit the San Marco area where the iconic places to visit are located The public water taxi from the train station can be as crowded as a subway at rush hour! As others have mentioned, you will get lost even using Maps. Plan your routes, with street names before you go. If you get lost, stop in a shop to ask for directions. Very narrow alley ways. Lots of small bridges to walk over. Watch for yellow arrow signs on buildings pointing to St Marks Square, Rialto. Expensive to eat since all food has to be carted into San Marco. Best to find and take tours to save time and get the best of the experience. To take water taxi back from Rialto to Train Station, go online and order a priority boarding pass. Otherwise, you will have to wait and wait to get on the taxi. One final tip. Cross over the Rialto Bridge to the mainland side from San Marco. Lots of great shopping, quieter, less crowds. And, wider alleys!

Palazzo Ducale, Basilica San Marco, Galleria dell 'Accademia...
Palazzo Ducale, Basilica San Marco, Galleria dell 'Accademia, Peggy Guggenheim Collection are not to be missed. Previous bookings are the best options. Also the view from the campanile of St. Giorgio Maggiore is superb.
The food in Venice is good if you find a suitable restaurant. Expensive though.
With a map you can reach almost any place of interest, but it's lovely just to get lost and wander around.
Not many groceries stores in the central area so it's better to bring in some essentials.

This was my 4th visit.
This was my 4th visit. Venice is magical and unique but if you spend your time around St. Mark's Square and the Rialto, you may end up hating it.
This city needs to be walked and all its different quarters seen. The vaporetti are a great way to get about. Buy a card for 1, 2 or 3 days and you can hop on and off at leisure. Visit the island too, they are lovely and worh seeing.

Beautiful city…a picture around every corner.
Beautiful city…a picture around every corner. Lots to see, just walk everywhere and get a vaporetto pass as they are great value for money. Lovely restaurants but there are some great cafes too to keep the cost down. Have at least one late night to enjoy the atmosphere and get some fab pictures. Visit the terrace Fondaco edi Tedeschi for great views it’s free but must book exactly at midnight 21 days prior to visit, Four seasons concert at Vivaldi church, Arsenale hand sculpture. Also don’t miss Morano for a glass demonstration and Burano for lunch with lovely colourful buildings.

It is a unique place which with 8-9 km walks daily you can see in 4-5 days! I recommend booking everything prior to visiting to avoid long lines! The food is good only if you do a good research and visit the more traditional restaurants and cafes!
Best restaurants that we ate at:
1. Ristorante da carletto - Traditional and incredible food!
2. Baci & Pasta - Pasta to go - take away
3. Venchi - Great ice cream but would also recommend Suso as an alternative (both were great)
4. Sora al ponte - Lunch on a bridge! Good food.
5. La Nuova Perla - Dine by the sea! Great good
6. Ristorante due fratelli - Value for money!
7. I Tre Mercanti - Great tiramisu variations with plenty of flavors!

Beautiful unique island to visit.
Beautiful unique island to visit.
Have to be sportive person or afford pay taxis to hold luggage through Venise small not regular streets and many bridges.
Tourists are not very welcome and it was very clear that locals are annoyed and even mad sometimes because of tourists presence.
Very crouded especially in the center.
Clean, comfortable, very friendly staff around 24/7, and our favourite stay of our whole trip around Italy.
This hotel is in a quiet part of Venice, but not far away from the Grand Canal and other touristy spots in Venice. Our room overlooked the canal and the staff really looked after us!
The bed was super comfy and the shower was wonderful - it was perfect for our few days stay in Venice.
I also liked the fact the hotel staff would hold onto your room keys while you were out, which removed the stress of possibly losing them.
First of all.. I was amazed to see I booked a hotel which is itself only on an island.. then came to know this is university cum hotel. The ambience was obviously different from other resorts but I liked it best. Cherry on top is beautiful CAFE.
Room was bigger than expected. Garden is much bigger than expected.
Hosts are amazing.. I stayed in 3 cities of Italy and found the hosts are amazing all over there. Its italy culture I think.
You can keep your luggage after checkout without worrying about.
This was one of our best accommodations on our Italy trip. The location was perfect, right in the heart of Venice tourism locales. Walking distance in minutes to the Rialto as well as St Marks sq. Most cafes and restaurants of repute within walking distance. The hosts communicated well. The apartment can best be described as elegant. There were cookies on the hall table and bedside tables which was a nice touch. Air-conditioning was vital in the humid Italian heat. Perfect for a family.
The staff was very welcoming! They spoke English and gave us terrific information about which attractions in Venice were a must to see. The room was in a great location near St. Marcos, the room was beautiful, the and the beds were comfortable. It’s been EXTREMELY HOT in Italy, so when the description says air conditioning, we expected the room to be cool all the way through, and it was perfect!! The bathroom was nice and big. We appreciated the shower water pressure, very much.
This must be one of the best hotels in Venice. Even though part of a large hotel chain, it still has the small family hotel atmosphere. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble with staff going beyond their call of duty. The position of the hotel must be the best in Venice, literally on the Grand Canal opposite a beautiful church Santa Maria della Salute and only minutes away from St Mark's Square. yet still peaceful away from the crowds.
I loved the location as we could either walk to everywhere in Venice from here or take the vaporeto as it was close to several stops. And we loved the apt itself, it had so many windows so loads of natural lighting, plus the bathroom was modern and comfortable (rare find in Italy). One of the few to provide so many toiletries, the host really outdid herself in order to ensure we were comfortable.
Extremely recommendation. Superb. I have been 3 week Italy in many type of hotel, hostel, but this is the best. I wish to stay more. Location is great. In the center but very quite. Few step to Accademi Brigde and St Mark Square. The house is beautiful and cozy, with garden. The living room is large with lot of photo book. Super clean. Tower is included. I feel so comfortable here.
- AMAZING everything was perfect
- we actually got upgraded to the sister hotel “Al Cadega” and it was perfect
- the breakfast was incredible - one of the best ever
- lovely quiet location (Serenissima is right around the corner)
- walking distance to all major sights
- helpful and friendly staff
- the most comfy beach and a large room for Venice
Great location on the canal. The owner, Jennifer, was lovely. She was very informative and recommended a restaurant that we would have just bypassed. It turned out that it was the best meal we ended up having in our whole stay in Italy.
Our flight home wasn’t until late but the hotel allowed us to store our bags at the property.
Accomodation is located in the Jewish Ghetto of Venice. Easy 10 minute walk from main train terminal to apartment or 1 stop on the ferry. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Rooms were clean and had a nice view of the canal from both bedrooms. Water pressure in the shower was the best we found whilst in Italy.
This is such a stunning hotel. The room was my favorite out of all the cities we visited in Italy on our honeymoon. The staff, breakfast, bar, room design and location were absolutely perfect. I would have stayed our whole vacation if I had know about this gem.
Beautiful hotel, huge rooms and great location for our family trip. Easy ~5min walk to hotel from the Zattere or Accademia vaparetto stops. Great hotel bar and breakfast. The staff went above and beyond to help make our entire trip to Italy amazing.
Fantastic location in Venice, my favourite hotel out of our 2 weeks in italy. Really big space with perfect air con. Loved the location for exploring Venice.
Staff were very friendly and thought the price was super for a touristy spot in August. Fab!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got a lot of useful information. The hotel is very close to a lot of sights such as Rialto bridge and St. Marcus square.
It was one of the best breakfast I ever had in italy.
The room is very sweet and cute, and I like it very much. The host is so kind to tell me all the apparatus of the room and give me a map for take a round at Venice. It is the best room that I stay in Italy.
The directions to the hotel were detailed enough that I actually got to the hotel...a definite achievement in Venice1 The breakfast was the best I've encountered in my two months of travel through Italy.
