The hotel had character but could do with some updating. It could be a perfect place due its close proximity to Chester. The grounds/garden are well kept.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool, jacuzzi and sauna were nice. Easy access to the city via the neighbouring park and ride. I liked that a box of tissues was provided in the room (a small thing but surprisingly uncommon in hotels and b&bs, I've found). Good selection of breakfast options and long timeframe for breakfast on a Sunday morning (8am - 11am). The towels and toiletries were good quality.

Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.
The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.
Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.
In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.
Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

Chester is a beautiful and ancient city where Roman Legionaires, Viking raiders, and Norman invaders once walked. We especially enjoyed the Roman Amphitheatre ruins and the 1000 year old Cathedral. It is worth the trip.

The city is vegan friendly, as well as the people being friendly. All historic sites are within walking distance, there is a sightseeing bus that does a tour with added river cruise as part of the price. Chester is still being excavated due to new architectural findings.
The Visitor centre is well located, near to the cathedral, and the staff are very helpful.
There are many places to eat, some restaurant chains and many local businesses.
The room was very clean and quiet and I found it very comfortable and well lit, with a kettle, fridge and hair dryer included. The hotel is very conveniently placed within walking distance of local shops and other amenities and is also within walking distance of Chester city centre.
I also enjoyed the Buffet style breakfast. The staff were very courteous and helpfull
There is a reasonable amount of car parking and the carpark at the adjacent Chester House may also be used if all bays at the Chester Court are occupied.
The location was perfect for our two night stay. Chester has plenty to see/do that can be done walking or by bus. Good shopping and cafes/restaurants.
The lady on reception on arrival and the next day was very helpful with recommendations for where to eat and without asking provided me with an extra sheet as the duvet was too hot.
The hotel was quiet but I did ensure that my booking did not coincide with a race day or weekend knowing (from experience) that you won't get much sleep.
Location quite simply could NOT be better! Walk out the door and you are on the High Street. Car Parking in the Grosvenor shopping mall with entrance to the Hotel.
Staff were warm and friendly and could not do enough
Food was amazing in the restaurant - really up there - fine dining.
Covid Impact is evident and all Health and Safety precautions are in place. We only stayed one night unfortunately but would highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay in Chester.
Exceeded my expectations - quality finishes and furnishing everywhere, quiet, spacious, full of charm and elegance beyond what is customary. Thick, large towels and quality wooden hangers in the wardrobe. Lovely and large sitting room to gather in outside of room.
Perfect location to walk into Chester or to village shops and restaurants. Owners are on premises and keep things to a high level. Delicious and fast breakfast service. Parking was good.
Hotel was central in Chester, very close to shops and resturants. Able to leave bags at the hotel before and after check in/out.
Room was adequate. Had a twin room but after visiting other Macdonald hotels, this one was on the smaller size, good sized bathroom.
There was 1 staff member who got us some glasses and ice who was very friendly and chatty, but this seemed a rarity for those who worked there (see negatives).
The hotel is in a great location not far from Chester city centre and with local shops nearby. We appreciated the opportunity to have a meal in the restaurant before heading into the city for an evening event. Staff were very helpful and the room had everything we needed. We would certainly recommend the hotel to family and friends whenever they visited Chester.
Location was perfect close to the city centre and main roads. Hotel was fantastic, staff helped us out when we had a problem. Window was broke in our room so we where upgraded to a large family room which was brilliant. Breakfast really tasty plenty of choice for everyone. Would recommend and will definitely stay again when back in Chester
Excellent facilities, iron, hairdryer, kettle - coffee & tea, A FRIDGE(!) and TV. All you would need for a stay. The bed was comfortable. The staff were all great and we stayed for breakfast which was excellent value for money. The best stay we have had in the 5 hotels we've tried in Chester, we will definitely go back.
The hotel was located right next to Chester Race Course which we were visiting. It was clean and tidy and exceptionally quiet given it's location next to a busy road. A very good car park under the hotel, which was very reasonably priced, given that we were staying in the city centre.
Lovely hotel in a nice location close to Chesters main city centre and Cheshire oaks. Room was spacious and clean. The evening meal was nice but a little overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was good, lots of choice to choose from. Staff were lovely and friendly. Overall a good stay.
Excellent location for city centre attractions. Very well decorated and maintained hotel. Owner exceptionally helpful, he even carried my bike through the hotel and loaded it onto my bike rack in the rear car park for me. I will definitely stay again if visiting Chester.
Friendly and helpful staff. On my arrival my booking via Booking.com was not on their system. Next time best to book direct. However, fortunately for me they managed to give me a room. Perfect location for Chester city centre with free parking. Good breakfast.
The hotel was located only a short walk to Chester City Centre; check-in was straightforward and it was easy to store luggage at the hotel; breakfast was varied and tasty and the staff were extremely friendly.
very friendly and helpful staff at this city centre hotel that is an excellent starting point for any visit to Chester or surrounding area. Particularly good for Chester Racecourse that is a five minute walk.
