I absolutely loved this area. Santiago de Compostela has everything you could ask for-culture, great food and friendly people. It was picturesque and clean. In addition it was a great base from which to easily visit other areas. It is a city I could return to again and again. We were here during off season so not sure if high season would be as pleasant.

Lovely city. Impressive main square and very impressive cathedral; fairly compact. Old town great: loads of eateries - specially down Franco St but many elsewhere. Finding tourist information office needs a little determination but very helpful when you succeed. Many good tours reasonably priced -especially Ria Basis and also Finisterre tour. You can easily get to La Coruña by train on your own but turn up a bit early because there may be a few security checks. Santiago de Compostela is a nice place to visit but way more crowded than I anticipated. Suggest pre booking tickets to things you want to see. The cathedral and museum was wonderful. Also, suggest reviewing restaurant options and make reservations early for popular places. And pre-arrange a taxi two days prior to airport departure. Even if the place was a ten-minute walk from the center, it was great place to stay and relax after camino. Singleroom was simple but enough. There was a little market downstairs and a big kitchen. The building has served earlier as a seminar center. There was a good and relaxed atmosphere. Gracias! The atmosphere of Santiago de Compostela is holy, cozy and friendly, despite a tourist. Many monesteries, museums, cathedrals..the old town is big, labyrinthine and so beautiful. Buen Camino and Gracias!
