Echoes of the Age of Empires
Hvar is the largest city on the Croatian island of the same name within the Adriatic Sea. The wildly undulating coastline formed a natural harbour here, a fact which didn’t go unnoticed by the Venetians, who captured it as part of their empire. The Venetian Fortress sits atop a hill and 13th-century ramparts descend to the old town.
Another castle from Napoleonic times is on a different hill offering beautiful views over red roofs towards the offshore Pakleni islands sheltering the port. Ferries link Hvar to neighbouring Brač and Vis islands, Split and Ancona in Italy.
Given the size of the city, the amount of Hvar accommodation is staggering, and Booking.com offers everything from luxury hotels with pools to cheap guest houses and beachfront apartments. Although most beaches are rocky, their scenic setting and warm turquoise waters are still a draw.
At the heart of the city is the largest square in Dalmatia. Restaurants and bars spill out onto its cobbles, ending at St Stephen’s Cathedral with its see-through belltower. Around the same time the cathedral was going up, one of Europe’s oldest theatres was constructed in the waterfront Arsenal. The Loggia is the only remain of the Governor’s Palace, and the Hvar Heritage Museum helps to put all this in context.

Beautiful old town.
Beautiful old town. Spectacular view of many surrounded island from the Napoleon trail. The city provided plenty of seating benches throughout the city and rural. I visited other towns in this island that have the same relaxing standards. Thanks to the Croatia government. However, October was not a good month to get access to island tours and most restaurants. Hvar is for you if you love being near the water and sitting...
Hvar is for you if you love being near the water and sitting in the sunshine. Things i wish I’d taken, more cash, many places operate on a cash only basis and they cash machines charge up to €10 to withdraw from. The cheapest bakeries which are also delicious are near the bus station. Bring insect repellent and insect bite treatments and also bring your own sunscreen as it is incredibly expensive to purchase it on the island. Take shoes you can comfortably walk up and down stairs in and on cobbled streets. Hvar has the most beautiful water I have ever seen, if you take a trip with a taxi boat to one of the smaller island, you'll have a wonderful time. There's a nude beach where fortunately not a lot of people go to cause they're scared of nakedness. Its super party touristy in the main town. Rich british boys and old white men.. everything is super expensive. There's no buses driving around the island so you'll have to rent a scooter or walk a long distance.

She provided great local recommendations and even coordinated a local COVID facility to open up early so my girlfriend and I could be tested prior to a ferry. The staff are so lovely, it is owned by a family who run it & they go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. We were greeted by Josipa who advised us that she had upgraded our room to a full sea view & it was bigger to accommodate our two little girls. During the first arrival we used the path with a lot of steps. However, I easily found the alternative with much less steps. The hotel rate was fair near $200 EUR for 3 nights in the end of October and beautiful Hvar old town. The room is part of the Heritage hotel and shares its facilities, but is located two streets away. This is not a problem since the staff is extremely helpful with the luggage and any other issue: honestly, very grateful for that. The breakfast is served in a beautiful patio in the shadow: nice, good and cozy. I strongly recommend this place!
