El Calafate is a small city in Argentinean Patagonia, situated in the foothills of the Andes and on the shores of Argentino Lake. Blending colourful wooden houses and Alpine-influenced architecture, it is the gateway to the Glaciers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in El Calafate and surroundings, from 5-star hotels to cheap hostels.
The area was originally inhabited by the ‘Aonikenk’ people, while the modern settlement grew at the beginning of the 20th century as a refuge along the wool trade route, taking its name from the native blueberry bush known as ‘Calafate’. The town was founded by the Argentinean government in 1927 to promote the colonisation of the area, but its development started only after the creation of the National Park, in 1937.
The famous Perito Moreno Glacier is 80 km from the city. Mount Fitz Roy, the small town of El Chaltén, the romantic Onelli Bay, Lago del Desierto, and Roca Lake are some of the impressive landmarks that make up Argentina‘s 2nd-largest natural reservation. If you want to experience Patagonia’s languid vastness and tranquillity, try some of El Calafate’s rural accommodation or ‘estancias’.

The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful.
The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful. They helped me in a difficult situation where I had to buy airline tickets on an emergency basis. They helped organize an excursion, a trip to Perito Moreno and to organize transportation for my group of 13 to and from the airport.
My room was beautiful; in fact, all of our rooms were wonderful.
This is a quiet place.

The only thing to really do is visit the glacier.
The only thing to really do is visit the glacier. I thought we could do more to make an extra day worthwhile but the tours to visit the other parts of the park were super expensive. All tours in the area were way too pricey and you can’t really do anything else without a tour. The restaurants are good, but in general I think Chaltén has a lot more to do and see.

I am a tour guide and I come to calafate with groups, at the end of my work I have a day or two of rest for myself. it is a beautiful city. although it should improve its internet service (it is regular everywhere) and they have too many dogs loose in the streets although they are not aggressive.

El Calafate is the place to be for visiting the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. We did the Big Ice Adventure with Hiele Aventura and it was amazing. The town itself is fine but very touristy.
The waffle café elba'r and the Patagonia Brewery were the best places we went to eat and drink.
The Glaciarium was interesting, a very text-heavy museum, lots to read. We went to the Ice Bar there too, however I'd already been to the same concept in another city - if you've been to one, you've been to them all.

I did not like this hotel.
I did not like this hotel. It was miserable and did not live up to its advertising in booking at all. No good cuisine , no hot tub as advertised This is not a 5@4 star whitely and you are advertising it incorrectly
Very nice hotel located on the top of a hill above El Calafate. We had our own car but the hotel offers shuttle service in the afternoon and evening into "downtown". Staff was very nice and helpful. They even let us change our rooms to a more silent part of the hotel when we did not have a good night sleep in the first rooms. Hotel has a nice and large lap pool, pretty warm and another smaller pool as well as a nice gym area with a view. Breakfast choice was plenty, buffet style.
Mariano; the owner and host, organized amazing experiences with short Notice. Too many to list; but our favorites included Kayaking, awesome El Chalten hike, Petit Perito Moreno Glacier hike( our favorite!). The restaurant Reccomendations we’re delicious!
Mariano is a Local, not only a Patagonia expert but a degreed profesional that can plan trips for amateurs like us to profesional hikers! Madre Tierra is the best place to stay in El Calafate!
We arrived late for one night and were off again the next morning. For us the late evening mountain-lake sunset view from the second floor was a great introduction to Argentina.
The room was very cozy, clean, and comfortable and close to the airport. It was not fancy, but it was great value for the money.
WIFI was good, the heater worked, and the hosts were very helpful & generous in their assistance.
Everything was perfect! The family atmosphere at the hotel made our stay unforgettable! The panoramic view of El Calafate and Lago Argentino is totally breathtaking! The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast is very good and optionally you can also eat a delicious dinner. It's some distance from the city centre, but actually we really enjoyed the calm neighborhood. Muchas gracias por todo!
Lovely little hotel to explore El Calafate - the staff were super helpful, from check in, to daily breakfast and also providing recommendations of things to do in and around town.
The room was a great base with everything you needed there. Loved the view over the town and the heated floors were a lovely bonus for the cold nights! Great location close to town and the bus station.
It is a very cosy place facing late Argentina. The place is tidy and quite. Susan is the best host I have ever met. She is kind, generous and warm. I dont speak Spanish but we talked a lot using translator. I feel so relaxed with her in her cosy place. If you have more time highly suggest you spend more days here to clear up the mind. Very enjoyable and peaceful stay.
The location was good for me because it is close (walking distance) to the bus terminal. The hotel is only 15-20 minutes walk to the main street and downtown El Calafate which the restaurants are. The owner and staff are very nice , helping you with any question that you have. The shower is good with strong stream and hot water.
The room is small for a suite. Too expensive for the price of the room I paid. The room we paid should not be considered suite. Misleading. We thought we were booking a suite which comes with a separate room. Most of the major hotel described with a separate living room.
Hostel staff extremely nice and helpful.
Location is very central.
Beds and showers are quite clean.
I stayed there a night and left for El Chalten. When I returned to El Calafate, I directly walked to this hostel again for another stay.
The property was beautiful and well maintained! The rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were very comfortable. We were in Argentina for 2 months and Linda Vista had the best water pressure and hot water of anywhere we stayed.
It was the most spacious and comfortable accommodation I had during my trip in Argentina. A lot of light, a wonderful view, a lot of space, all the necessary commodities. I would stay there again if I return to El Calafate.
A very nice well maintained property. Staff is nice and helpful, rooms large and very comfortable, super clean. Many good services like massages. So far it’s the best hotel in my journey. Can seriously recommend.
Our cabin was so cute! Best bang for your buck in expensive El Calafate. Location is central.
Ana the hostess (Ana) was amazing and helped us out a ton with laundry, taxi and everything else.
Very comfortable, the owner is very helpful, awesome vibe and decoration in the house. Kitchen has all the equipment you will need. Best shower in all Argentina!
Possibly the best hostel I've stayed in yet.
Certainly the best steak I've had in All of Argentina.
And you cannot beat the view.
Plus they are safe and clean.
