Mallacoota is very scenic: broad stretches of water and surf filled with sandbars. People in the local IGA were friendly and helpful. Their prices for food items were quite reasonable. We also went out to the Bunker and the aerodrome which was very interesting. At the moment the wattle is out everywhere which tends to hide evidence of the previous fires.
I thought it would be a bustling coastal town, how wrong I was. 7pm and only one place in town open to get food from. Streets are very dark and difficult (and sometimes scary!) to navigate at night. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t go back.
Mallacoota is a magnificent holiday location with beaches, estuaries, bushland and more. The walking tracks are some of the best we've been on and everything is beautifully and thoughtfully developed and maintained. We could stay three weeks with bikes and a canoe and have plenty to do.
Just passing through and wanted to stop a night at Mallacoota, something different for a nights stay in a small town. Jenni was kind enough to let us know about our key before we arrived. We had no issues with our one night stay.
we heard so much about Mallacoota during the bushfires we wanted to visit to see the place for ourselves. We are not beach or fishing people and were were really passing trade as we were going from our home to an interstate activity. Dropping in to Mallacoota added a little time/distance to our trip, we felt visiting might be worthwhile. We enjoyed our time and learned a little of how the locals must have been impacted by the bushfires. The community appeared robust and thriving.
Mallacoota was decimated by bush fires a few years ago . Amazing to see how well it has recovered even though the scars will remain. We visited a few beaches and as older people our favourite was Quarry Beach as there are amazing rock formations and lots of rock pools to explore..We had a very good meal at the local pub but otherwise self catered. You do need a car or bikes to get around the town.
