Towering over the red sand dunes of the Namib Desert, this 4-star lodge offers an outdoor pool and a dining terrace overlooking a floodlit waterhole. An absolutely stunning location! Right next to the park gates to visit Sossusvlei and the other dunes. Comfortable, spacious rooms. Great shower. Lovely pool which I had to myself for about an hour! The view from outside the bar/restaurant looking towards the waterhole was amazing- watching oryx, springbok, jackal, ostrich etc with a glass of wine in hand! Wonderful, varied buffet breakfast and dinner.. So much choice! And we are vegetarian but still plenty for us. Easy check in and out. I would have liked to stay longer.

Set within 40 km of Sesriem Canyon in Sesriem, Desert Hills Glamping Camp offers accommodation with seating area. Both free WiFi and parking on-site are available at the luxury tent free of charge. 100% recommended! The place itself is magical, the luxurious tents are beautiful and got everything you need. But what really stands out is the silence in this location and the TEAM. We have to point ot Sidney as one of the most helpful and welcoming "staff" we ever met on a holiday. He greeted us when we arrived and took care of everything we needed and wanted during our 2-nights-stay. But the whole team is fantastic, friendly and caring a lot. The food was insanely good and creative, the breakfast fresh, healthy and got everything you need. If you look for a place where you can really slow down and get rest but also have the chance to explore stuff - this is definitely a place to go! Thank you for making our Namibia Trip unforgettable.
Sesriem (15.8 miles from Sesriem Airport)
Set 40 km from Sesriem Canyon, Desert Homestead Lodge offers an outdoor swimming pool, a garden and air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. Everything!! I will recommend and come back definitely. The room with a view to the waterhole is a dream come true. All the room is a dream, the bed is really comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful. The staff is amazing, the chef is an incredible human being and the food was absolutely delicious and well served. The common facilities such as the pool and the dinner and breakfast spaces are charming and beautiful, well maintained and really clean. For horse riding at sunset was unforgettable and we could see oryx very close to us. I will never forget this amazing lodge.
Accommodation in and around Sesriem and Sossusvlei is slightly on the expensive side for locals and South Africans. However, it is one of those things that you have to see and experience should you be able to travel the gravel roads of this vast country.
The road in from Mariental (273Km) and out to Walvis Bay (315 Km) were sand/gravel, and in a poor shape for large portions. Other than that it was a great stay. 2 nights should be a minimum with at least one day to frolic in the dunes.
I loved the dunes, but we should have got there a bit earlier in the day for the best photographic opportunities. We stayed at We Kebi Lodge which was exceptional value for money, and I would have loved to stay there for a longer stay.
Sesriem is an oasis in the desert and everything is well organized but basic. Prepare well before you go. The cleanliness of the entire area is remarkable. The Namibian people are very friendly and helpful - don't be shy to ask for advice.
Best place to experience the oldest desert on earth. Wonderful place to spend time with. At least you need to stay 1 night inside park to make sure that you can go to Deadvlei early in the moring. Take photos with shade of light. Hiking at Daddy dune in the morning and slide down to deadvlei.
We stayed at the Desert Camp, not far from the park entrance gate. It was an easy drive to the park, and the 60km of wonderful tarred road to the 2 wheel drive car park. This gives access to Dig Daddy dune and Deadvlei. From here the park vehicle took us to Big Momma dune, and also goes to Hidden Vlei. All very easy. Dune 45 is 45 km along the road. The bus cost 180 Namibian dollars in October 2023. Wear runners to climb the dunes and walk to Deadvlei. Har, sunglasses and water are essential. We ate at the restaurant inside the park gate. Good and affordable. We bought our water at the shop there. Breakfast at the Sossusvlei Lodge was good too. I would recommend paying extra for tyre and glass insurance when picking up your rental car. Prior to coming to Sesriem, we had a flat tyre far from anywhere and Hertz directed us to a lodge with tyre repair services. We had to go on to Outjo to get the fixed tyre replaced, but the insurance made it less of a concern.
