I rushed up from Wairarapa for a funeral was only there for one night and just over half a day. but I did get a chance to shop in Farmers on Devonport Road, due to leaving my hanger of clothes behind. The ladies in womens wear were so helpfull

We had perfect weather (first week of April) We walked for one hour to the Mt. Went swimming in the hot springs pool and the next day took a water aerobics class there. All 4 of us enjoyed the pool. We loved walking on the boardwalks and on the sand by the ocean. One day many were swimming, the second day was cooler and ocean waves pretty high so not much swimming. We loved eating at the restaurant "Salinity" food was great and view of all the yachts was fun. We cooked some of our own meals and our host provided a lot of cooking extras. We had Copenhagen ice cream= a real treat across from the pool. We shopped at the Harley Davidson Store, the Knife store and New World and Woolworths groceries. We had a relaxing 3 nights and two fun filled days.

If you have a car you can have a great vacation here. The city itself is a perfect place for hiking for a spectacualr view (Maunganui summit), do some shopping (the city center is full of restaurants, shops), exploring history (Historic village, Elms foundation, Old Timer Cars community event), find extraordinary interesting and beatiful places around (Glow Worms+Waterfall at McLaren Falls, hiking at Kaiate Falls, visting Firth Tower at Matamata,...)

Mount Maunganui absolutely wonderful spot for relaxation and / or beach swimming / surfing / fishing / biking / walking , it has it all ! Lovely eateries everywhere too and friendly locals ; you'll not regret the experience.

We were there in autumn.
We were there in autumn. It's a summer city ... sun, sea and surf. Not many cultural activities and the art gallery happened to be closed! Historic village, although mainly retail, was a pleasant couple of hours stroll through. Tauranga a good place for families I think. Would visit early or late summer next time: high summer very busy.
