The landscape is nothing short of spectacular—hardened black lava, rugged volcanic terrain, and an ever‑present view of the majestic volcano create a surreal and immersive experience. The funco structure—a traditional Cape Verdean circular house—is thoughtfully built with sustainability in mind: pallet furniture, rainwater harvesting, reused water for plants and toilets, solar panels for electricity, and solar‑heated water. Every morning, a freshly prepared breakfast by Restaurant Isabel was delivered directly to my room—sweet and savory pastries, fruit, and juice—luxurious in its simplicity. My hosts, Léa and João, were absolutely wonderful. They welcomed me warmly from the moment I arrived, with genuine kindness and a sense of caring that made me feel instantly at ease. João is a guide, ask him for hikings! I also want to highlight the friendliness of every person I met in the area—they were open, warm, and made this journey feel safe and connected. At night, I would gaze up at the stars from my cozy funco—the sky, completely free of light pollution, felt like a universe unfolding just for me.

The place is very well set up and the owners are kind and helpful people. It's a family operation with lots of experience in hospitality. The rooms are clean and functional. The meals were nice too. We would definitely stay here again.

It was the end of the rainy season and everyone in town was busy with renovations for the upcoming high season. It is a family business and the hosts are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Ciza is a professional, very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide and Rose is an excellent cook. When booking, I did not inform them of my dietary needs (very sorry) and they were able to accommodate me on the spot, which I appreciated very much. I decided to extend my stay for another 2 nights because I really enjoyed it and there are many things to explore. I would recommend not only staying at Ciza&Rose, but also letting them organize the hiking activities for you so that you get the most out of your vacation in Portela.

Casa alcindo se nachází v Chã das Caldeiras a nabízí bar. K dispozici je nepřetržitě otevřená recepce a restaurace. Výhled směřuje na hory. Všechny pokoje v tomto bed and breakfast mají šatní skříň. Amazing place at the bottom of the volcano, the views are spectular. Garden is so pretty and well maintained. The owner took really good care of us and I could see all guests were well taken care of. She arranged our guide, picnics for the hike and was super responsive and nice.

TCHAN LOVe se nachází v destinaci Portela a má restauraci, dětský klub, bar, zahradu, terasu, dětské hřiště a výhled na město. This is a very nice place to stay for couple nights. Quiet, comfortable. Breakfast was included and I have asked for it at 6am, so the Lady just left it from the evening (coffee in a termopot). Also you can ask for a dinner, which is really good, super tasty (Ive got a fish with rice and veggies for 900 escudo). And also you can ask for some wine (industrial or craft homemade, about 200 per glass). The place has not many reviews but it's seems super new, means you will have also super new bathroom which is nice bonus for staying. As for the transfer: you can book the place in Alluger with the room booking. The way from Sao Filipi is 50-60 mins and costs 1000 escudo. As for the trekking: 1. The location is the best, right next to the start of few trekking routes 2. You can ask the owner for a guide, just ask for someone local who is actually based here in Caldeiras and not in Sao Filipe. As for the Pico Grande you will definitely need a guide because it's super tricky route. For the Pico Grande the usual price is 6000 per person but it's could be a discount if you are in group 3. Also you can walk by yourself (without guide) for couple places: e.g Pico Pequeno (it's now that far) and also you can walk to the Forest Monte Velha (about 5 kms till the entrance to the Forest) or even to Mosteiros (about 16 kms in total, 10 kms at the normal road and 6 kms are a bit difficult, inside the forest - not the easiest trail but it's possible)

The place was perfect for us: great location, wonderfull view on the caldeira and on the volcano, quality of the staff, size of the room, good food made by them. They have done everything to feel at home. Take time to discuss with Adriano, he has many stories to tell you about the caldeira and about Fogo. Thanks Adriano and Filomena for these days on another planet !

Pensao Zé Doce se nachází v destinaci Portela a nabízí bar. Tento bed and breakfast poskytuje zahradu, neplacené soukromé parkoviště a možnost vlastního stravování. Koupelna je vybavená sprchou. The location is amazing. The room was clean and functional. Food was healthy, and portions were big. Jose helped us planning our hikes around. I highly recommend ! Oh, there is two super cute cats.

Pipi's Guest House se nachází v destinaci São Filipe a poskytuje bezplatné Wi-Fi, zahradu, terasu a bar. Pláž Playa Sao Filipe se nachází 2,4 km od ubytování Pipi's Guest House. The house is beautiful and the location is perfect. It is better than the pictures.There's always a breeze from the sea, the pool is refreshing, the view of the volcano and the sea at the same time just stunning. Pipi and her family/team are perfect hosts. We are vegetarians and didn't expect much, then we had three super nice dinners and the most beautiful breakfasts with lots of possibilities. Really hope to go back there some day.

Casa Ze & sonia se nachází v destinaci Portela a poskytuje bezplatné Wi-Fi, neplacené soukromé parkoviště a výhled na hory. Ze and Sonia were super nice, friendly and accommodating. They could speak French relatively well. The room is simple but functional. The meals prepared were very delicious. The WiFi was good to work from there, and in case, the 4G antenna is located nearby. Absolutely recommended!

Casa Colonial Koenig se nachází v destinaci São Filipe a má bar, nekuřácké ubytování a bezplatné Wi-Fi. Jen 200 metrů odtud je Pláž Playa Sao Filipe. I lived the old colonial time house, which was transformed into the hotel. Renovation is really well done which preserves the spirit of the building and is very atmospheric. Emmanuel, chef of staff is very friendly and helpful. He also makes great cocktails! Best place to stay in Sao Filipe.
