New and modern facilities. Nice and spacious lobby area. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast and spacious dining area. 10 to 15 minutes walk from Bad Ischl station to the hotel. A point to note is the aircon in the room will only work if all its windows are open.

The owner was very nice. It felt like visiting friends and staying in their daughter`s room while she was at summer camp 😊 I really felt like staying in a home rather than a hotel. Someone might feel better in a huge anonymous hotel but I like it better this way. The location was perfect. Close to a main road so it was easy to find and to get around, yet not too close so the noise of the road didn't bother me. At night with windows wide open I couldn`t hear the road at all. View of the mountains all around and meadow or pastures right behind the fence. A restaurant and shops within walking distance. One could quite easily walk about 2 km on a path along the river to Bad Ischl. (I walk the same distance to work, so I know it's doable). Both bathroom and bedroom had large windows that could be wide open for fresh air. It was very clean and the bathroom seemed to be recently renovated. An electric kettle with a cup was provided. And I appreciated a "normal" hair dryer, rather than the usual hotel type. The lack of AC didn't bother me because my room was north facing and one could open the windows once it cooled down in the evening. I can't speak for the southern side though. As I said, at night it was very quiet (once the church bells stopped chiming, luckily they didn't go all night). The bed was 140 cm wide and comfortable. Breakfast was a standard buffet I would say, I didn't expect salmon mousse or caviar, so no disappointment there. And again the owner was very helpful. Parking on the premises with no problems finding a free spot.

Had a fantastic stay at Hotel Sandwirt! The breakfast was amazing, such a great selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats and cheeses. I would come back just for the breakfast alone. Friendly staff, always happy to see you and answer questions. We even got a discount card through them, giving us 10% of most attractions in the region. Our room was decorated with tradional wooden decore and the bed was super comfy.

Nice old town that has nice stores and good restaurants to go. I liked the Christmas decoration in the town center. Bad Ischl is a good place to stay and drive around to some other towns like Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen, Dachstein and Badausee

Bad Ischl is a nice place with enough activities for a sunny or rainy day. Apart from the local historical places (e.g. Kaiservilla, City Museum), it's an optimal central place for roaming around Salzkammergut - Ebensee, Attersee, Halstadt and Haltstadter See, Wolfgangsee, Dachstein, and anything else you might wish. If you'd like to make a short visit to Salzburg, there's a direct bus about every half an hour. Bad Ischl sports restaurants of any class, try to avoid the "tourist" ones in rush hours or make reservations. But trying the facilities the locals frequent in Bad Ischl or its surroundings is a fantastic experience (and saves you tons of money). Some "tourist" places do offer set lunch menus for about EUR 11 per person (in 2024), some of these menus are even haute cuisine, some local classics, but always an interesting experience. If you plan to travel around by public transport (excellent) think about buying one or the other OBB Vorteils Karte and in any case, get the OBB Tickets app on your mobile (bus, tram and train tickets, connections and timetables), it's going to save you a lot of time and nerve.

During the day it is packed with tourists, but it becomes a calm town later in the evening. The town is a good starting point for several day trips to Halstadt, Dachstein, the lakes (biking from Ischl to and around Wolfgangsee highly recommended) and I am sure many other. We had 3 days of cloudy/rainy weather, and we spent these well in the spa and in the indoor sights, such as Kaiservilla and the traditional cafes in the center.

Small town as a gateway to the Lake region.

Small town as a gateway to the Lake region. Perfect for stopping by incase you want to visit Hallstat and other lake regions. Town itself is good with few important touristic spots like Kaiservilla etc. Good scenery especially on a cloudy day. Being small town shops closes by 6 and then nothing much to do as it becomes quiet.

I have fallen in love with Bad Ischl and its “Sommerfrische”! We first went there in 2021 for the Lehár Operette Festival. It is a quiet village which falls asleep at 10pm, but such a relaxing and beautiful place to stay with so many daytime activities on offer. Close to different lakes and plenty of hiking and cycling opportunities. Lots of culture and loaded with history. I will return here every summer for many years to come.
