As we drove in, Yvonne greeted us before we had turned off the engine! The bed and pillows were nice and firm. The microwave and basic kitchen supplies were appreciated.

    The owners were brilliant!

The owners were brilliant! They have created a lovely warm environment and are happy to help you out. The room was very clean and comfortable. It is so reasonably priced you would think something is wrong but it is just great basic country hospitality done right. If I'm ever back in Charlton I'd stay here again.

The river was sublime to visit.

The river was sublime to visit. Coffee shop with the wonderful Bruce running the show was a delight, great coffee here. Came to repair a minor issue on our car and found the mechanics at Pridgeons both professional and really helpful. Our stay was made more special by the friendly service of all the townsfolk. Go check it out. Historical buildings everywhere

The location was perfect for travellers, as it was at the very entrance to the town. Disliked · The staff member(later identified as Chris) who attended to me when I arrived was very unprofessional and rude in his manner. He looked up the details I gave him, and then quoted the cost for the room. I told him I had already paid, and he then had the cheek to ask for a receipt. I walked out saying I would get my phone. A few minutes later, he came after me and said it was alright, told me the room number and said the key was in the door. He then disapeared. When I got to the room, the key wasn't in the door. The room was unlocked and the key was inside. On further examination, the room had not been cleaned satisfactorily, and there were mud stains on the carpeting. There was also a large spider in the corner of the room over the bed, which I had to dispose of. The state of the room was fair at best, and in the bathroom there were more issues. Evidence of poor cleaning practices again surfaced, as long black hairs were found around the vanity basin. I do not have long black hair. When showering, I discovered the drain backed up and the shower floor filled with water. This eventually subsided, but it is extremely unhygienic and could cause a slip or fall for the unsuspecting user. I met another staff member the following day, who to be fair, was friendly and courteous. He did not identify himself. He inquired if everything was OK, and I relayed the shower and spider issues. He advised that they occasionally get spiders in the rooms. He fobbed off the shower issue as old pipes. In summary, although I was booked for 2 days, I was relieved to be leaving on the morning of the second day. For the money they are charging, which is commensurate with good clean quality accommodation in the marketplace, this establishment, currently displaying a banner at the front of the premises as " Under New Management" falls way short of the mark. 2/10.
