It was very comfortable and just beside the tram station. There were many cafes nearby. Also, when we checked out we left our Go Pro at the hotel, and we didn’t realise it until when we came to collect our luggage - the front desk manager at the reception handed it over to us. Thank you so much!

FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Great public transport facilities mean you don't need a car.

Great public transport facilities mean you don't need a car. Lots of entertainment and dining opportunities in Melbourne, and excellent outlets for shopping at every level. I highly recommend an unassuming Italian restaurant in Little Collins Street called Lupino. Great food, terrific service and charming waitresses! Lots of sporting activities to attend and they tend to be comparatively less expensive than say Sydney. You do need to anticipate the quite changeable weather.

You will need good walking shoes or enjoy catching a tram, ferry or bus. A young vibrant busy city yet there are pockets of calm and beauty like the Botanical Gardens, which has free entry. Great variety of shops in the CBD (central business district), relax on a docklands River cruise. Or book your tickets to watch ARL (Aussie rules league) football. There are stunning night time views of the city buildings and variety of shows in theatre district. Wide choice of food vendors to suit all tastes in every street.

In Melbourne to visit our daughter which took up most of the short time we were there but did get a chance to go for some walks around the Collingwood/Fitzroy area which we loved, full of good bars and restaurants. Also the Fitzroy and Carlton Gardens which are lovely. Then there was Friday night at the NGV which is always a treat, this time it was the Impressionists exhibition. Love coming to Melbourne.

    Melbourne is great.

Melbourne is great. It is going through a bad time at the moment, thanks to the Dan Andrews and Jacinta Allen governments and their unhelpful attitude to small business. It has too many vacant properties and too many people sleeping rough- if they put this together maybe they could help the homeless properly! But we cannot blame Melbourne for bad socialist government- this has happened before, and somehow, its elegance and culture rise again. It's a very beautiful city and rewards the visitor with sights, sounds, food, and wine that you will always remember fondly.

The Veriu Collingwood is in a fantastic location to explore the urban chic of Fitzroy in Melbourne. It is near tram lines to access the CBD also. Despite being an a main road our room was quiet. I really liked the layout of 2 x mini apartments with a shared entry as I was travelling with my mother, so it provided personal space but also togetherness. I love having mini kitchen's when I travel as I am a healthy eater, however the apartments are super close to excellent eateries, bakeries and coffee galore!

The location of the Grand Hotel was great. The hotel is walking distance to Southbank, the CBD and the Casino and there are plenty of cafes close by. Trams are within a few minutes walk which service the whole of Melbourne and also St Kilda beach. The facilities at the hotel are excellent, the rooms are big so there is plenty of space to move around, and the pool and sauna was a great way to relax after spending the day walking around.

Being close to the trains and in the CBD it was very noisy. That is not the staff's fault it is just what it is for city hotels. The hotel was very clean and new looking. Reception area was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Thanks for a lovely stay Brady Apartments. Very close to Southern Cross station, places to eat and drink. Such great value for money, a short 5 min walk to the closest tram into the heart of the CBD. Clean and comfortable apartment, decent size. Enjoyed the quiet and more relaxing feel of this hotel on the edge of the city. It’s a little gem, will definitely be back for future stays in Melbourne.
