Saint John, with so much history is showing signs of deterioration. I grew up there and it makes me sad that such a potential is not being realized. I know it costs money. The streets were not clean.
The streets were not clean. Dog owners should clean up after their dogs. Outside our Air B&B was a big pile of dog feces right on the sidewalk. We heard a Mother yell when her child stepped in it. Even on the boulevards was dog poo. It was disgusting. Parking was in short supply. The construction and one way street system was a pain. We didn’t find any nice dining spots. Significant work has been done around the harbour making it a very interesting and safe tourist destination. The walking trail from the downtown wharf to the reversing falls bridge (about 3km) is well prepared with several look-offs, info boards and beautiful gardens. Downtown Saint John surprised me. It was beautiful with the old buildings and quaint streets and neighbourhoods. Found a great cafe. The harbourfront is lovely, although it is under heavy construction. We went to the Irving Nature Park. Beautiful and free!
