Summer trip to Rovaniemi: Lapland was in a heat wave which held us back a bit as it was rather humid. We enjoyed Arktikum very much, went swimming in the river, walked in the Arctic Gardens and explored the town centre. We planned some hiking but it was hotter than we expected. We went by car just to see the road and environment to Rovaniemi. We were not disappointed. Along the way met other international tourists like that of Poland, France, Spain, Germany. Our goal was to spend a few days in there during the "midnight sun" period and to explore the natural areas in that part of Finland. Rovaniemi is not an exciting town, but very pleasant with good museums to help you understand the Artic environment and good restaurants and activities. Arktikum Museum is worth taking .
Arktikum Museum is worth taking . I recommend to stay at least one full day on this museum. Regarding food there is an amazing Asian restaurant called Ozaki Teppanyaki Sampokeskus that is really good for families, We loved all the stuff we tried there. Although our accommodation proved to be very poor value for money, Rovaniemi itself was great. Space to relax and cook! The sauna in the apartment was a great addition to. The apartment was in a wonderful location, just far enough out of town but still only a ten min drive to get to the city and other attractions in Rovaniemi. Loved being able to go across the road to sled, and we also spotted the northern lights from the observation tower which was a short walk up into the forest. The roof terrace was superb for those views too. We loved our room (Mystique Sauna room) with the cosy lighting, framed window view (which can also be enjoyed from the sauna which has a window as well and large amount of space. It was incredibly clean too and we did a walk down into town via the observation tower and it was magic in the snow.
