Bonfacio is lovely.
Bonfacio is lovely. The Old Town is perched on the cliffs and offers superb views across the sea to Sardinia. It is packed with lovely winding streets and little shops and restaurants offered a wide choice of food. Our fav restaurant in Old Town was Chez Julien and near the port, Chez Francis. We didn't have a car but still managed to get around - there's a bus service to Porto Vecchio and you can take the ferry to Sardinia, it only takes an hour. There are plenty of boat trips from companies dotted around the harbour. We were there off season, there are more bus routes available during the main summer season. Bonifacio is truly breathtaking — perched dramatically on limestone cliffs, with views that look like something out of a dream. The old town is charming and full of character, with narrow cobbled streets, historic buildings, and a unique blend of French and Mediterranean atmosphere. The harbor is lively and elegant, full of yachts, restaurants, and a laid-back holiday vibe, while the upper town offers stunning panoramas and a rich sense of history. The cliff walk and the view toward Sardinia are unforgettable. Parking can be tricky so be prepared for a hike:-)Guest review byVeraItaly - 10.0

A couple of days here gives the time to explore the city and see the sights - the marina, the staircase, the bastion tour, walk the walls and do the hillside walk to the east of the city. We only spent a few hours in Bonifacio itself but that was sufficient. The citadel is stunning, perched on the clifftops, but is best seen from outside if honest. We did not take a boat trip as they seemed excessively expensive and we were disappointed by the high cost of parking. But if you drive 5 minutes outside of the town, heading west, there is free parking on the road with a stunning walk across the cliffs to the town and citadel.
