Absolutely a gem of a place. Very well laid out, great welcome, and friendly staff. Delicious food, great bar and lovely views. Cannot fault it. Can't wait to return. Off the main Oban road but well worth the detour.

Everything had been considered for us. The bed was comfy, the linen was clean, the shower and bathroom were clean. We had tea and milk and wonderful shortbread provided. The room was warm and the breakfast was MADE TO ORDER which always surpass a larger hotels buffet. Dinner too was excellent and the general atmosphere here was one of family and homeyness.

Darren and Karen were outstanding hosts! They went above and beyond helping us with an issue we had with the ferry. Breakfast was delicious with a lot of options and locally made jams. The setting is bucolic. Close proximity to the neighboring hotel made it easy for us to get an evening meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Old Cottage and wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed in the Islay room. No detail is overlooked! Superb quality sheets, Scottish Co soaps, Babybliss hairdryer, extremely comfortable bed, brand new spacious bathroom with huge fluffy white towels, very quiet home, gorgeous oak bedroom furniture, excellent Scottish breakfast in a beautiful diningroom. Our host booked dinner at the lovely Cuilfail Restaurant when he realized we had not pre-booked our dinner, which is very important in Scotland as restaurants book up, even during the shoulder season. So welcoming and friendly, we highly recommend this accommodation as an exceptional value.

Ardfern village is home to a pub/ restaurant, a tea room/ restaurant, an adequatly stocked village shop and a boatyard with large mooring facility. Boat trips run from here to see wildlife and whirlpools. Ardfern as an area is a beautiful drive, cycle or walk in to the west offering magnificent sunsets if your timing is right. It is also well located for touring.

    Lovely hotel and excellent staff.

Lovely hotel and excellent staff. Check in was easy, room was clean and stylish. We had a beautiful evening meal which was 5 star quality in both taste and presentation and an excellent breakfast again excellent quality and taste. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much bother. We stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it so came back again and I can honestly say it was even better this time I can highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be visiting again.

Ardfern is a small village with a great hotel, we have stayed at before, the access road is one track with passing places. Having driven on these roads in the past it's not a problem, but could be for city drivers. Oban is about 25 miles to the north and the historic landscape of Kilmartin with its museum is only about 7 miles to the south. Crinan with it's canal is just a few miles further, another one track road. Altogether a beautiful part of the world.

The food at the hotel restaurant was lovely.

The food at the hotel restaurant was lovely. The chef sources ingredients locally and they have their own garden. It was very up scale for being so far off beaten path. The staff were very friendly and accommodating getting us in for dinner even with our late arrival. The highland cows grazing and view were spectacular. The beds were comfortable and it was so quiet. Just beware that the roads in the area are narrow and winding and at times "single track with passing places" and speed limits are 60mi/hr.

Such a beautiful hotel and the food was amazing, I had a fantastic linguine meal and the breakfast was massive. Beautiful bedroom and extremely quiet. I was looked after by two lovely ladies who ran the bar and kept me topped up with heverlee lager, thank you. I must have driven past this hotel road end dozens of times, I won't again, highly recommended.
