My accommodation at Dunleath House was excellent. The host was very welcoming and friendly, and my room had excellent facilities including a lovely bathroom (with shower and bath) and a lovely kitchenette (with a microwave, kettle, gas hob, fridge and tea/coffee). My room was very clean and tidy, and I appreciated that I had access to an extension lead and hairdryer within the room also. It totally suited my needs for my short stay, and I would recommend any person needing accommodation in this location to stay at Dunleath House 😊

The house is beautiful and James was very hospitable and friendly. The room was spectacular and we loved how comfortable everything felt. Breakfast was amazing, every morning there was a line up of fresh breads, jams, cereal and drinks prepared along with a hot breakfast. James offered assistance with recommending restaurants and was always accommodating. Ballymote is a stunning historic home that is perfectly situated near a variety of places we could visit and made the ideal base for our Northern Ireland trip.

Ardglass is a very small village which has two very good places to eat - the Chinese Essence and Doc’s fish and chips. It is a good inexpensive base from which to reach the southern and eastern part of Northern Ireland.

Ardglass is off the main road south and you would have to need to go there rather than happen upon it, not much in the town, a working harbour, a few shops and pubs but no food served in them. Beautiful coastal walks, cycling and strolls from there but not much else, oh, a very good golf club though. As a base to explore it's ideal, a very good Eurospar and petrol station with Off Sales close, excellent Chip shop, there is a Chinese restaurant but we never ate there. we used it to visit nearby Bishops Court racing circuit.

An absolute gorgeous setting of the harbour and beautiful beaches nearby. We ate in Aldos, such tasty food and friendly staff. Easy to get around in a car as close to Downpatrick and Newcastle. Quite hilly if you are on foot.

Hard to answer this question, we've been before, always as day visits, always using our own boat. This trip we were on a geocaching mission, the overnight stay made that so much easier. We found the buses good, on both occasions we used them. Such shops as we used were good for us, but on short bounces our needs are simple. For those who wish to walk the coast paths are interesting, scenic but rough in places. Walking on the roads is not particularly pleasant as they are narrow and the traffic can be fast. For those coming by their own boats the harbour and marina are excellent.

A scruffy historic village with an old harbour and broken down castles. A very good pub up the hill and a not so good one in the Main Street. A chip shop that closed at 8.30pm bemused me - surely that’s when folks want fish and chips! Another one that stayed open and made more money. An unusual tackle shop that sold various other odd things. All in all a strange little village but characterful in its own right.

Loved the harbour and seeing the fishing boats.

Loved the harbour and seeing the fishing boats. Sorry to learn they don’t get out to fish often. The shops etc are nice too. Walking helps to appreciate the area. We called into the Down Museum in Downpatrick on our way back and learned some details about the area.
