The location was beautiful and calm just a 5 minute drive from the charming town, Ballater. The hosts were warm and welcomming people that made the stay very comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing and the room was large and very cozy. We had a fantastic couple of days here.

Fairdene Cottage was perfect. So adorable and comfortable. I was able to visit Balmoral and also the Ballater train station with a replica of Queen Victoria's train carriage. I loved everything about the cottage and its location.

Lovely B & B, very comfortable king bed, large room and bathroom, Kath and her son were excellent hosts. Breakfast was very good, so much choice. Everything was spotless and upgraded to a very high standard. Not far from Ballater and we enjoyed watching the birds and red squirrel on the feeders.

    A very scenic town centre. A good supermarket and several specialist shops (bookshop especially) . just try and avoid the sweetshop (far too tempting) Several nice restaurants and an excellent fish and chip shop. Bike hire by the old station and easy routes along the old line.

    Ballater is a lovely village.

    Ballater is a lovely village. Very clean and tidy as you would expect being so close to Balmoral Castle. Beautiful hanging baskets outside the shops Plenty of cafes and gift shops. Lovely village green around the Church in the centre of Ballater with seating areas . Free car park and free parking around the Church. Lovely village to visit or stay. We stayed overnight at The Barrel before visiting Balmoral Castle the following day.

    It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have...

    It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have stayed in on our trip we had been away for 4 weeks and this place by far the very best. Homemade cakes and a great breakfast. Highly recommend to everyone to stay, but you should stay a minimum of two nights.

    Great little town on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms.

    Great little town on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms. Some nice speciality shops, cafes and restaurants. We ate at Angus and Ale - the food was first class.. Ballater makes a perfect base to explore the highlands.

    Very quaint town Had dinner one night at the fish shop, very nice dining experience great staff great food, had dinner at the Fife arms in Braemore One night fantastic meal, Whisky selection was very extensive. The staff was very knowledgeable.

    Beautiful old house on the deeside line, loved walking in and out to ballater and all the walks round about. Beautiful views from the front of the hotel Various spaces for sitting in the evenings, well stocked bar Large selection of continental breakfast items to help yourself from Enjoyed chatting with the owner when she was there, and the staff member, sorry didn't get his name, he was so friendly and has had a fascinating life

    We like just about everything about the Auld Kirk and its hosts. The building itself is full of character, really nicely converted from church to hotel and a short walk into central Ballater. The hosts were particularly friendly and helpful and shared local knowledge with us. The breakfast was generous and the hot dishes were freshly cooked to order, we took leftovers with us on the 7 Bridges Walk for morning tea.

    My room and bathroom were exceptionally clean, as was the whole of the hotel. The lady got up early, so she could make me an early breakfast. The staff were so friendly and the food was great. Nothing was too much trouble - even during a busy Bank Holiday weekend. I would definately stay there again. A lovely small hotel, right in the heart of the lovely village of Ballater.

    We had a great room and received fabulous customer service. The bed was very comfortable too. There was an extremely well equipped refreshment area in room.. water, biscuits, choice of teas and coffees, crisps. There was a rather noisy extractor fan..possibly for the kitchen which we could hear at the rear of the hotel but that stopped about 10 pm.

    The cottage was in an absolutely perfect location - the town of Ballater is just beautiful, with plenty of walking and outdoor activities nearby. Definitely worth a visit to Balmoral Castle while you are there! The beds were super comfy and we loved the bird feeder outside the window.
