Wonderful hotel right in the centre of Bath's Royal Crescent. The staff were perfect, helpful and attentive. Many small details marked the stay, which shows the quality of the establishment (magnificent building, splendid interior). The room we stayed in (we had an upgrade) was on the back side of the hotel and had its own little terrace; it was very large with a bedroom area, a ‘sitting’ room, a very large bathroom and an entrance hall. We had no direct neighbours, so the room was very, very quiet. The breakfast was excellent (small buffet, and menu offering different types from full English to eggs benedict, and a vegetarian menu). The spa was very pleasant (too bad the sauna wasn't working, but the hammam, bubble bath and swimming pool were). We went there often and there were never more than 5 of us in the spa. We had also booked a treatment (‘work it out’ massage), which was absolutely brilliant (many thanks to Meg)!

FAQs about hotels in Bath

Roman Remains and Georgian Grandeur

Wonderful, World Heritage-listed Bath is an impressive mix of Georgian architecture and Roman legacy. Its most famous landmark is the fantastic, natural hot spring Roman Baths. Although everything above the pillar bases is from a later period, you still get an idea of its appearance in Roman times. Sadly you can’t bathe here, but across the street the rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa offers views of Bath Abbey and the surrounding hills.

Check out the stained-glass windows in the abbey, England’s last remaining Gothic church. Its square houses Pump Rooms dispensing hot spring water from the Roman baths.

Just behind, the Parade Gardens by the River Avon overlook Bath Rugby Club, the multi-levelled Pulteney Weir and Grade I-listed Pulteney Bridge, lined with shops. Other Bath shopping options are the Southgate Shopping Centre, the bohemian Walcot Street market, and high street stores on Milsom and George streets.

North is The Circus, a circular square lined with Georgian townhouses, only marginally less impressive than the Royal Crescent down the road. You can now visit number 1 Royal Crescent, restored to its 18th-century glory.

Before heading to Bristol Airport from your Bath accommodation, take time to try the famous Sally Lunn Bun and stop at the pleasant pubs along the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Too many wonderful places to see… wow , this city is full of amazing places. As much as possible try and stay close to the City Centre and use the apps such as the self guided tour app, but make sure your phone is fully charged because you will be using both the app for a talk on the iconic spot as well as your maos ( Google etc ) for navigation. Make sure you spend time at the Roman Baths and for fans of Jane Austen, the centre. Look out for the Crescent, spotted it and a couple of other spots in one of the episodes of Pie in the Sky .

The hop on hop off bus trips were excellent value for money.

The hop on hop off bus trips were excellent value for money. The queues for the Roman baths were long and the cost of entry was, to us, excessive. Plenty of places to eat and drink, with good variety. The cathedral was a haven of peace and quiet and well worth visiting.

The city has a relaxed friendly vibe. There are so many eateries, museums, places to visit and walks. Highlights were attending a service at the Abbey, doing the tower tour, The Roman Baths, eating at The Ivy, the Thai Balcony and Turtle Bay, breakfast Pultney Bridge Coffee, the weir and river walk. It’s a very walkable city, but prepare for the hills !

Bath is a gorgeous heritage city and well worth visiting for the Roman remains and literary connections. On the other hand, it is a very expensive place and swamped with tourists and hen and stag parties. I would suggest visiting out of high season. And make sure to stay in a four-star hotel. The most expensive hotels are ridiculously overpriced.

    We absolutely loved Bath.

We absolutely loved Bath. We stayed 3 nights and I could have stayed longer. However we did do a couple of day trips from there, so if we purely stayed in town the whole time it may have been long enough. The historic buildings are beautiful. Town is set up so lovely. I recommend staying either in or within walking distance from town. We went to the Roman Baths which I highly recommend. My husband didn't come this time as he went years ago and thought it was very underwhelming, however, since he has been, they have added sooo much more to it. The are still finding artifacts which they add. We went through in 1.5 hours but could easily have taken longer as heaps to see. Also a tip is book your ticket online as it's a little cheaper. We went in the evening when the crowds are not as big and they had lights and music playing with a bar. Beautiful. I don't know if it's just during the summer, but the car park near the Double Tree Hilton turns into antique markets on Saturdays. We thoroughly enjoyed that a bought a few goodies. We took a day trip to the Bristol Balloon Festival and day trip to Highclere Castle from Bath. We had a car. The Royal Crescent wasn't anything special in my opinion. Just a quick look and we were done. The Jane Austen Centre was good. We purchased tickets on the spot without a prior booking. You get a 20 minute talk, then a self guided walk through which honestly takes 10 minutes as too busy to try and read everything, but the fun part was getting to dress up at the end and take photos. You also get to try writing with a quill. We didn't go to Sally Lunns this time as the lines were too big each time we went past, but we went last time. It's worth going. Is the bun worth it, well.......... you'll need to judge that for yourself :)

Really good location, very friendly reception staff. The cleaning in the room was not great, expecial in the bathroom. I could see mould and dirt all over the shower wall. Also the spa is not the best, doesn't offer too much and the pool area needs some refurbishment. Is annoying that the kids have limited time to the pool, the weekend we were there I could see lots of children in the hotel, but the time for them is just a few hours.
