This year is the city of culture in Bradford.

This year is the city of culture in Bradford. Not having been back for many years I expected lots of change and I was'nt disappointed. Total culture change very sad in some ways and good in others. The town centre is a collection of gambling places hair salons and the high street favourite charity shops. However the new Kirkgate market on Darley Street has had some work done on it. My only thought on that is why so many empty listed buildings and still construct a new one. I am sure there are many reasons. It is my hometown so will always be a special place for me.

I used to live in Bradford and the changes to the city centre are fantastic - pedestrianised, more relaxed, almost continental. Loved the flower beds and the new Daley St market and little bistro bars, brilliant!

Lots of history, and easy to get round as plenty of buses, get day tickets for unlimited trips.Lister park is a real treasure with Cartwright hall. Saltaire mill and the industrial museum are great places to visit with family. Places to eat , plenty of good curry houses,---My Lahore, our favorite, also the Polish Bistro just round from the Leonardo hotel is fabulous!! The centre has a water park used by families on hot summer nights ---- unfortunately in August the Alhambra theatre is shut down for re-furb. So we couldn't see anything in there!! Centre can be a bit confusing with old and new mix , lots of eateries in Broadway Centre but very few cafe with outside tables. For piece and quiet, Bradford Catherdral is lovely and Lister Park is well worth a wander through.

Bradford is in the middle of its year as 'City of Culture'.

Bradford is in the middle of its year as 'City of Culture'. The amount of places with free entry is staggering, although you often need to book the free tickets. The Cartwright Art Gallery in the lovely Lister Park is a good half day visit. The refurbished Media and Science Museum is excellent. Don't miss the Tower of Now near to this museum. If you can go to the Railway Children, do so. It is a magical and unmissable performance. Bradford itself is a delight. It's now grand, not grim. The Victorian architecture is a treat, both in the centre and Little Germany. Give the cathedral a visit in this area.

Host was fantastic, very quick to respond when there was a key issue - sorted everything immediately so reassuring to know. Location of apartment is excellent, shops nearby and everything centre of Bradford has to offer on your doorstep. Rooms are a decent size, 2 bathrooms useful and everything was tidy and stocked when we arrived. Lovely views being on the top floor too, considering the central location and price compared to hotels this is a good option.

Perfect for rail travellers, it's a very short walk from Bradford Interchange Railway station, I travelled by train a few steps, and I was checking in. We picked the hotel for ease of access to St George's Hall because we had booked tickets to a music concert. After the concert we settled in to the lovely comfortable bar for our post concert get together. The bar staff were brilliant, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
