Bed was super comfy, large bathroom with nice fresh towels provided. The room wasn’t huge but perfect for 2 people. It was a nice touch to have fresh milk and cold water in the fridge provided. Really big mirror for getting ready. Clothes steamer provided, which you don’t often see. We had lovely weather so we were fortunate to utilise the courtyard space, this is shared with the other room but plenty of space for you all to sit. We went in the pub and had a few drinks on Saturday night, it’s a nice local with friendly people and staff. We went to bed around 10pm, there was noise from the pub still but it wasn’t overly loud and we were expecting it considering we knew we were staying at a pub, though it does still feel private and out of the way. It’s great to have a back entrance so you don’t have to walk through the pub if you don’t want to. The location didn’t really matter for us but it was perfectly centrally located!

The ambience. After a bit of a scary moment and a few kerfuffles here and there, the staff and the manager were just the kindest and the sweetest. They cared about my soloness and accommodated me above and beyond. It's not the Ritz, but it was very close as far as the care and attention was concerned. The room was cozy and the lighting great. Beds comfy and decor fancy and thoughtful (depending on room)! Fridge and microwave a bonus. Clean towels and bedding. The balcony is great with views of Clacton pier and the lights if you get those rooms. But mostly the kindness of the staff was the winning point especially the Boss. I felt safe after feeling unsafe because locks do need to be put on porch doors as terraces are very close to eachother and that's important I think if you're travelling solo. I had a fab time though. A very memorable experience.

    Visited in June.

Visited in June. Area has walking potential and is good for nature lovers. We are elderly with elderly dog that couldn't walk far in hot weather. Interesting history and a Cinque port. Marina. Small sandy beach at end of Promenade. Lido and boating lake. Friendly locals. Several pubs such as Fishermans Arms by harbour, and The Rosebud at Hurst Green.

Very pleasant relatively low key resort.

Very pleasant relatively low key resort. The local museum is exceptional. The food available was disappointing - pub fare (fine but not for every lunch and dinner) - with no stall/restaurant selling crab sandwiches or edible shell fish. Well worth taking the foot ferry to Point Clear for a walk. Very relaxing walks along the river as well.

    Loved Brightlingsea.

Loved Brightlingsea. We were pleasantly surprised how peaceful and pretty it was. The museum was very interesting and loved the lake & beach huts. We ate at the Yachtsman twice and the Rosebud. Enjoyed our meals at both places. We travelled out most days to Mersea, Dedham, Holland -0n -Sea, Maldon and Colchester and would recommend all these places.

The accommodation was lovely, with the un-suite too, nicely decorated. Plenty of useful things to use in the room i.e. hairdryer, fan, mini fridge, toiletries, towels, kettle, refreshments - tea/coffee/biscuits and tv. We managed to park outside our room, which was perfect for me as I'm having trouble going upstairs.

Location was brilliant. Excellent for exploring Essex and Brightlingsea was lovely. It was a cosy house with good facilities in a very quiet area and a Co-op was literally 5 minutes walk away. Would rate the cottage as 3 star not 4 for the reasons stated below....
