Chard seems a bit scruffy in places although the high street was nice. Parking is a problem if you don't have coins, the parking app is very disjointed. That isn't Chard's fault. Chard has rather a lot of empty shops, but those which remain are very good. E.g., the local bakery and butchers are very traditional and a high standard. I came to visit family so I wasn't a tourist as such. However I do like Chard, it's got a nice community feel. The staff in shops are friendly and helpful. I remember Chard from my youth (1960's) and it had obviously changed in some ways but it is an interesting town with a good selection of shops and eating /drinking places. A small town, not many places to eat out...we ate where we stayed at The Bath House Hotel and restaurant - a Malaysian fusion restaurant, rather pricey but a nice meal. Very disappointed with Chard, a very sad town with little going for it. Expected a pleasant, country town but Chard certainly was not.
