Scenery was great, however what made it was the staff who are absolutely amazing. I’ve worked away all year. This is the best place I’ve been to all year. Knowledge about the surroundings and well spoken. I’m blown away. Mr Bamrah

We had a warm welcome from the friendly staff at the Black Horse. We enjoyed staying in an authentic English pub, which had a lot of character and a great atmosphere. The Indian restaurant is delicious and the fridge in our room was stocked with milk, cereal, fruit and biscuits for breakfast. The room itself was peaceful and decorated in a shabby-chic style with a comfy bed. It was nice to have the window open and listen to the birds singing outside, and no traffic noise. On our second night there was a great live band, which was a lot of fun. Nearby there's a small café and it's very close to the Tyndall monument, which we had a view of from our room.

There was nothing much where we stayed in the actual village but a Garden centre was nearby for breakfasts and a local store for snacks and drinks and anything else we needed. We spent the day at a wedding held at Tortworth Court which was absolutely excellent for facilities, gardens, views and services. Very beautiful!

The hotel is situated on the M5 northbound but Falfield is on the main road A38 between Thornbury and Gloucester with Berkerley Castle on a B road a mile nearer the Severn. The A38 has quite few quaint old pubs with open fire places lit in the winter. Many have hot food available lunchtime and some in the evening especially on Friday's and at weekends. Falfield is a good place for walkers. North to Berkelley Castle and a Wild Life Preserve called 'Slimbridge'; The is also over the M5 towards Dursley a place called Trotworth Court and Arboretum. Both of these two places have been open for many years especially' Slimbridge 'but people must check they are still open. There is a Garden centre in Falfield but Thornbury and Berkerley are places to visit for shops. Falfield is on the main bus route from Bristol to Gloucestershire

The small village of Falfield is on the A38, parellel to the M5 from Bristol to Gloucestershire. There are buses through the village but detailed instructions would be needed to go to Days Inn as it is part of a Motorway Service Station. The hotel is actually in STONE about one mile North of Falfield. Both Villages have ancient churches and public houses. They may be closed in Winter as they are advertising for STAFF now. There are obviously foortpaths but the small town of Thornbury is only about 5 miles south and they have a Leisure Centre , Library ,, Golf Club and many shops plus 2 supermarkets. There is also a Museum open in Summer. A few miles North of Stone is Berkeley Castle.

Comfortable and private room with ensuite bathroom.

Comfortable and private room with ensuite bathroom. Not so good a place if you are travelling towards Bristol as you have to go down to the next junction and back on yourself in the opposite direction (presumably why low price) Helpful staff told me how to drive to other side using their private access road although this turned out to be quite a long detour in the morning.

    Extremely good value.

Extremely good value. Comfortable, clean and quiet; friendly staff. OK so ‘no frills’ but still everything you need, for a great price. I stay here from time to time when visiting the area. Near to fast food outlets in service station, plus shops for basics/medicines. Otherwise, nice towns and eateries within easy driving distance. Curtains a bit dated … but really…. who cares?

    Good Location. Lacks atmosphere.

Good Location. Lacks atmosphere. Cold and drafty especially in the lobby, bar and restaurant. Bathrooms could have been cleaner. Bedrooms were a good size, beds were comfortable and well made up and the room was clean. Windows rattled and were drafty, as they did not close properly. No guest ales or any form of traditional bitter offered. No Guinness. Just offered larger, cider or IPA on tap. No bottled traditional bitters either. Restaurant lacks atmosphere and is not subsequently not supported by the locals which is a total shame. Breakfast was the standard self service full english, with good sausages! Cereal and fruit also available.
