The Chequers at Burcot had an excellent restaurant, with a delicious menu and wine list, set in a character filled, thatch-roofed building. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the location was convenient for us. The owners (I presume) were very friendly and hospitable, and we were offered a welcome drink to enjoy by the fire, before dinner. Although our trip was for work, staying at The Checkers was a treat that made us feel like we were on a holiday. We liked it so much, we stayed a second night.

This was the most dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed in. Our grumpy beagle was made very welcome by the staff with a selection of doggy treats on arrival. We only had breakfast as we were visiting family nearby but it was a good hearty full English. As expected with a 14 Century building it is showing its age. A lovely location with a 1300 year old Abby near by and open for visitors.

    Wow. Just wow.

Wow. Just wow. The food was incredible - even finding ways to make food I wouldn't normally touch seem exquisite. The staff were attentive without ever being overbearing (not always an easy skill). Was Le Manoir expensive - yes. Was it worth it - absolutely. Will I come back - definitely. I just need a bit of time to let my bank account recover.
