We loved Great Torrington it has a lovely atmosphere under the skin of it, as a close and friendly community. It felt very safe. The multi function arts centre including cinema is lovely A rare small town with the butchers, bakers and candlestick maker - let alone the hardware shop and 2 green grocers : so many facilities which modern times have deprived us of. The view point outlook is stunning and the market area is interesting. The Castle Cafe and gardens are well worth a visit. Close to Tarka Trail (with cycle hire) and old Torrington railway station. RHS Rosemoor is very nearby. We tended to eat at home with so much choice of quality produce : tended to travel to other locations for eating out as part of holiday scene rather than a comment upon local pubs etc which we did not get to trying. The local fish and chip shop is very good though. Bideford is nearest larger town - a straightforward journey with Appledore and Westwood Ho! just beyond.Guest review byKennethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great Torrington is a charming little town with great character and lots of history. The central square is very picturesque. There are lots of lovely walks to do in the surrounding area, that you can do straight from the town, without having to drive anywhere, as it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. We only stayed 4 nights but managed to get out every day.
We only stayed 4 nights but managed to get out every day. We had a lovely sunny day at Westward Ho, had great fun on the large beach and lovely fish and chips there. Visited RHS rosemoor, had a great day there as its surprisingly large and had tons of stuff to see and we also explored the commons local to the area and had a lovely walk up some of the tarka trail. The QR codes at various points of the trail were very interesting as well. A very pretty Devon town with most facilities.
A very pretty Devon town with most facilities. Fairly hilly so need a car or be good walkers. Lots of lovely walks by the river and along Tarka Trail. Bike hire available at the local (disused) station.Guest review byAnthonyUnited Kingdom
