Great location and very quiet. We had booked for one night & ended up staying three. The twin sisters running the pub could not do enough for us. The breakfasts were great.

A fabulous place to stay in Pickering. My room was extremely comfortable with good facilities and bathroom. Luxurious linen and large towels with daily servicing of the room. The hostess couldn't be more friendly or hospitable, welcoming you as you arrive with a lovely pot of tea and biscuits and providing you with a cool drink when you return after a long hot day of sightseeing. Nothing is too much trouble for her as she takes great care of her guests. The back garden is a lovely restful and pretty retreat in the afternoon/early evening. The off-street parking situated inn the house grounds is a real bonus and I was also able to leave my car there after I checked out while I went to visit Pickering Castle. Breakfast is a real treat with lots of yummy options and a scrumptious cooked to order hot meal.

Lots to do - there are plenty of lovely walks, the Museum is well worth a visit, and the pub is friendly and serves great food (though check first as don't serve food every day). Ideally situated for visits to Helmsley and Pickering.

We went for the May Bank Holiday weekend so enjoyed the Duck Race, the Craft Fair, the Tractor Run and the maypole dancing within the Ryedale Folk Museum. It really is a lovely village set on the edge of the moors. Good pub and tea rooms and an excellent little shop selling, amongst other things, a fantastic range of ice-cream.

Was a little difficult to book evening meals or tickets for outings as no internet so had to think a bit ahead and do this when internet available when we were out. Can recommend the Blacksmiths in Lastingham, and also The Kings Head and the Black Swan at Kirkbymoorside too for meals. The Crown at Hutton le Hole was always busy so book ahead.

Beautiful little picturesque village with good amenities (pub serving good food, museum, cafes, deli etc) and which is a short distance to the moors. Great places to visit that are within easy reach including Scarborough, Whitby, Pickering, Castle Howard.

The village is beautiful , the residents take great care in its upkeep and appearance. The museum is interesting (closed Friday). The one and only inn is closed Monday and Tuesday. The menu is limited to basic pub grub however I understand that the Barn Tea rooms are offering early evening meals on these days so it is worth checking that out before you go. Check out the walking routes to the neighbouring villages on utube.
