The choice from the breakfast-menue was excellent, very varied and complaying with all different needs. Our room was very luxerious, niceley decorated and the bathroom one of the very best. we enjoyed one of the very best afternoon teas at the Matfen Hall and keep a very good memory of a truly old country home in a beautifully natural setting. We felt that no expenses were spared to turn an extraordinary building into a very special hotel. We just loved it and will surely come back to Matfen Hall

Darren is a great host. You stay at his place and share the living room, kitchen and toilet/shower with him. During our stay, we had the luxury of two bedrooms. One to sleep in and one for our (backpacking) stuff. The day before our stay, Darren contacted me to ask for our time of arrival. After my reply, he offered to cook us an evening meal, which turned out to be delicious. We had a very pleasant afternoon and evening with Darren, which he enjoyed as much as we did.

    We have been to a few other places in this area - Matfen stands out from the crowd. So many 4/5* places disappoint but this did not - it earned its stars. Gorgeous countryside, interiors quite stunning and food was good.

    We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel ,had lunch in the clubhouse and dinner in the hotel both were excellent. The staff in both the clubhouse and hotel were very professional and friendly.

    Muld in swimming pool showers Very old mattress in new part of the hotel with dipping hole No regard for guest who has paid 290£ for a dinner and asked to seat in certain table that we always seat. Even though the restaurant was empty. No welcome chat or explanation about breakfast time or where new restaurants located Cleaners removed personal paper work that was left in room I was addressed as Mr in my welcome card left in the room Nut a very good internet

    The luxury suite is superb although costly in comparison to...

    The luxury suite is superb although costly in comparison to other similar 5 stars hotel. But we know it and like it just the same. We ate at all the 3 restaurants. Simple food at the golf club The Keepers, fine dining (not yet there) The Emerald with beautiful interior but slow service due to the kitchen rather then the serving staff. The interior of the whole hotel is superb and impressive. Cleanliness is super and so are all the staff. Highly recommend the hotel.

    We ate in Cloisters, and Keepers, both of which produced well produced, and well presented dishes. All staff were wonderfully adept at whatever their roles entailed, and always had time to stop and chat. The whole experience was totally exhilarating, with of course a few holes of golf thrown in.

    The welcome at Matfen was lovely, being seated in the great hall while your car is parked by concierge and bags taken to the room is a great touch. Our room was spacious enough and we had a lovely little balcony with views to Matfen village which is 2 minutes away. The rooms were spotlessly clean and great amenities including fresh milk, the decor of our room is a little tired but it didn't detract from our stay. I also had a fantastic facial in the spa and we used the pool, sauna and steam room which were very good. Then to Emerald restaurant which was incredible such a wonderful surrounding to enjoy delicious food and a great bottle of South African Pinotage. We definitely recommend a stay here and we loved it so much we have already booked again to stay in December with our parents. See you again in a couple of months. Possibly our new favourite getaway hotel.

    The Quality and Service from staff members during our stay was absolutely outstanding. Kudos to them, I have stayed in hotels across the world and I have generally found that UK Hotels are distinctly below par in service, staff attitude and quality. Matfen Hall is most certainly not. Faboulous, well done. 🙌
