Magpie cottage is a beautiful cosy home from home, a perfect place to relax and recharge. The Farmhouse style kitchen is equipped with everything you might need, far beyond the basics you'd expect in a holiday let. The lounge is cosy and comfortable with a beautiful log burner fireplace. The whole place was spotless and the various ornaments and pictures added to the homely decor. There was a great selection of Dvds books and games to use during our stay and everything you could imagine needing during your holiday including an iron and ironing board, clothes airer, vacuum cleaner, high chair and much more. The hosts were accommodating and messaged us to check on us during our stay. The cottage is set in a lovely location and a good base for exploring beautiful Northumberland. We would happily stay here again. Highly recommend

House had real character. It had everything we needed. Was easy to heat, cosy warm. Nice spacious well lit and well equipped kitchen. Narrow stairs to bedroom which might be issue if you're not very mobile. Doddingtons Milk Bar next door did great hot chocolate and cakes. Highly recommend. We'd happily go back to cottage. Great stay.

Wooler is the perfect base to explore so much of wonderful Northumberland. The Cheviot hills are on your doorstep, literally walking distance and it is very easy to get to the coast, Lindesfarne and many other places just 30 minutes drive away. A small market town with a high street packed with great shops, pubs, takeaways and cafes; we recommend the Terrace cafe for excellent all day breakfasts and great coffee . The town is particularly good for those who like browsing antique and bric a brac shops, there was even an Auction when we were there.

Best part of our visit to Wooler was our trip into the distillery there. From the moment we stepped into the building the staff were on the ball and couldn't be more helpful. The tour around the distillery was 1st class as was the tastings and the restaurant perfect. Its a pity that the town seems to fall short of its reputation, its dowdy, looks as though it needs picking up by the bootstraps. Most of the shops don't open till 10:00am on a Saturday and shut on a Sunday. No wonder they have quite a few units closed or closing down. You would think that having a new facility like the distillery on the door step that everyone would be lifted by the jncrease in visitor numbers but who wants to visit a dowdy place. (There were a few premises that had had a paint over and tried to make an effort - and well done them).

Ideal using it as a base to visit Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island. We understand the Tankerville Arms Hotel is up for sale , hopefully someone will take this on, update what needs to be done, the building has so much history and is in an ideal location. The staff were excellent and made our visit special.

We stayed in Wooler to visit the Farne Islands, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne and found that three nights wasn't quite enough. Lindisfarne warrants a full day, as does Bamburgh if visiting the castle, and another full day if taking a trip to the Farne islands and spending time in Seahouses. We would have liked to have spent time on the fabulous beaches and visited the whisky distillery in Wooler. We managed to get to Wooler Common, and found it well worth the visit.

    Wooler has interesting corners.

Wooler has interesting corners. The church is particularly of interest with it's ceiling and windows, the bells chime the hours. There are eating places on the main street, and there is a local bakery and local butcher. I think Americans might describe it all as Cute & neat.

Fabulous location to get out and about to see lots of interesting places in Northumberland. A lovely milk bar selling food and diary ice cream. A well stocked supermarket aswell as a great chip chop a Chinese and 5 or 6 pubs. There is also a lovely Italian restaurant but booking is essential. There is a whisky distillery and museum that do tours. A cost to enter There are many pretty walks in the area and surrounding areas to enjoy. The local people are very friendly and welcoming.

Ideal location - right in the heart of Wooler with a restaurant one side and a pub the other. But still very quiet by 10pm. We had an excellent dinner at the Milan next door. Lovely spacious apartment , light and airy, and great to have bathroom and also separate toilet and hand basin. We’d booked months back, and I thought we’d booked a room, so it was a wonderful bonus to have so much space
