A very nice room with kind staff. The room was clean and big, and we loved the personal touch for our honeymoon. Being able to use the pantry was lovely! It was filled with all sorts of snacks. The location was very close to the centre of York, a short walk to the Minster. The breakfast was superb as well!

Really nice comfortable stay. Spacious room, nicely decorated, with a big comfortable bed and a clean, modern ensuite bathroom. Lots of options provided to make yourself a cuppa which was appreciated. Easy self check in and self check out. Lovely communicative host. A few continental breakfast items available in the room - please note the cafe downstairs (independent from the guesthouse) has pretty limited hours so early risers need not plan to eat breakfast there

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

York is naturally filled-to-the-brim with both heritage and history. Guided tours are probably the best bang-for-buck way of getting your feel for the place. The city centre is awash with shops - some are very touristy and would have no place anywhere else. The Shambles was disappointing. Deeper, explore through climbing the City Wall and of course York Minster. Enquire about an Evensong service where you can experience both the choir and the Minster’s mighty organ and the stupendous acoustics the cathedral provides. Entry is of course free for a service!! The Railway Museum is a bit further from the city but, if all-things trains are your thing - then unmissable. We also took an hour-long river cruise on the Ouse - OK, just a tad interesting though. Restaurants covering all tastes (no pun intended) are plentiful and due to the strong competition between them ensures quality is pretty good. A meal at Betty’s Tearooms wasn’t quite the shock to my wallet as I thought it might be!!!! Probably for the city 2-3 days is enough.

York is very compact so it is perfectly feasable to see all the sights on foot and much of the city is traffic free. A bit dissapoint that a large section of the wall walk was closed for renovation. Too many pubs and eating places just sold a variety of burgers or cheesy chips. The Yorvik Centre, York Museum and Castle Museum are well worth visiting. The Railway museum really needs a good, half day to get around all of the items on display. Pre -booking is probably a good move to avoid the ticket queues and some venues allocate timed entry. We took one of the trips along the river which was a pleasant, relaxing hour. All in all, a pleasant 4 day break.

This hotel's location at York Minster is both spectacular and within walking distance to most sightseeing attractions, therefore we took advantage of the hotel’s valet parking . It’s very very very busy literally all the time, no matter when you visit York it’s manic. It’s beautiful but I find it hard work with kids. Lovely if you can wander The Shambles I would avoid walking down, photo op at the end of the street. People literally walk down there and it’s near on impossible to stop to look at any of the shops Gorgeous to sit by the Minster with a coffee and sandwich. Ask Italian is worth a visit for its impressive interior and lots of lovely independent coffee shops on Micklegate.. away from the crowds

Spotlessly clean. Great Churchill theme throughout the hotel and impressive style of building. Ideal location for walking into York City Centre. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Handy light switches and plug sockets by the bed. Lovely beer garden with pizza oven for sunny afternoons and evenings - great food and drinks and easy ordering via QR code.
