A wonderfully walkable and friendly place, with a rich history and vibrant atmosphere. At any given time there are small vessels moored from around the world, alongside the picturesque wharf lined with outdoor cafes and gelatories. Good location as a base.
Good location as a base. All the great beaches are closer to Stari grad. City of Hvar is definitely the nicest but cities like Jelsa, Vrboska and ofc Stari grad are having their own charm. Speaking of restaurants in Stari hrad, I would recommend Barba Luka. One of the greatest fish meals I had so far...and staff is excellent. It's quiet but still full of action.
It's quiet but still full of action. A lot of restaurants with different dishes and different kind of music. Some even with live musicians. There is a great plaza in the city covered with micro-blazes that shoot tiny drops of water producing refreshing fog. Kids loved it. Big sidewalk along the sea allows for great night walks. The city beach is fairly nice, clean water and normally crowded. Great vacation for family with kids. Perhaps not so good for partygoers.Guest review byMilanSerbia - 10.0

This is a lovely port not too big with plenty of restaurants and sailing yachts which moor each evening and give the place a very lively atmosphere. We stayed in a front room with sea view and terrace and the breakfast was served on the large terrace outside or inside if it was raining which did not happen for us - fortunately. Ante the Manage/0wner actually drove us back to the ferry at Hvar on our departure as the taxi driver had to cancel at the last minute and we were really grateful to him for that kind gesture. Yes it is easy to get around Stari Grad and we will rent bicycles next time as it is mostly quite flat.Guest review bynugentUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Stari Grad is a very lovely town, that we all appreciated litter free streets with traffic free walks around the harbour. and the bonus of lots of seating areas. Plenty of bars and restaurants to suit everyone with also 2 very well stocked supermarkets. Additional bed (sofa) for the kids was very comfortable too. Position in quiet area, which we liked. Stari Grad is well worth staying and it has its own charm and beauty, in different way than island's most visited town of Hvar which is always more crowded. A really relaxing way to see Hvar Island - Stari Grad is a nice town and you can easily get to some nice out of the way beaches. The house is really well equipped - you have everything you need and you can have lovely meals in the garden by the pool which is small but most welcome (and you can sit and watch the swifts dive-bombing the pool)!Guest review byDavidFrance

My dog was also very welcome at Hvar Places. The hotel is located directly on the sea. To the beautiful village of Stari Grad it is about 10 minutes walk.
