The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour.
The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour. The Castle was not visible from a close drive-by - one had to proceed down a drive to see. Enjoyed seeing all the cruisers docked along the Shannon. Restaurants sparse, but found a very fine pub to watch a football match. Precious little activity in town while we were there. There is an excellent Indian and Italian carry out...
There is an excellent Indian and Italian carry out restaurant in the centre of the town. There is also an Aldi in the town. Also Portumna is close to beautiful countryside and forest parks. We were visiting Flowerhill Equestrian Centre. For horse lovers this is an excellent facility, with a fabulous cross country course. They were helpful with any queries we had, but more importantly, they were constantly engaging with us and other guests in non-intrusive way to make you feel welcome. On top of the owners, the location and facilities are great.
