Without exception the staff are amazing, warm attentive and extremly helpful. The location of the San Carlo is simply Stunning the views over the lake are amazing day and night. Amazing good place to stay. Free parking next to the hotel. And I don't want to sum up all the good things, it's too boring. The restaurant has 2 waiters, they should play in a movie...chapeau, but they don't know... 🤔😂

Beautiful and comfortable hotel minutes from the station and the lakefront. I booked a basic single and was upgraded to a lovely double. The room was big, warm and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

The staff at Hotel Spagna are so welcoming it was hard to say goodbye. The owner Stephan, Elizabeth, Maria, and Christina - were all so lovely I extended my stay in Arona. Then after checking out I left my bags at the hotel while collecting a hire car. I was back hours later than I’d advised and had no way to communicate. I realised after collecting my things and driving away that Stephan had kindly waited around hours for me to return instead of going home so he could let me back in - but he didn’t even say a word was just friendly and gracious. Thank you so much Stephan - I’m writing this from a tent in the Alps which I couldn’t be doing otherwise. I’m so glad I chose little Arona to stay in and this hotel. It has been my favourite in over a month of travelling from Australia across Europe. Thanks for showing the cheeky Italian spirit; and also letting me have breakfast at 1pm after long sleep ins! Great communication with the Tatiana who always responded very quickly Very clean and comfortable with everything you need and thoughtful complimentary items, such as coffee pods, biscuits, water etc. Great location, 10 -15 minutes walk to the lakefront or the railway station We will definitely return if we visit Arona again Thanks!

The apartment was well located within walking distance of the railway station. It was very comfortably furnished and the kitchen and bathrooms were very well fitted for a short or long term stay. The bed was very comfortable and the lounge and dining area was very spacious. The appartment was stylishly furnished.

    Arona is a wonderful city, with plenty to do.

    Arona is a wonderful city, with plenty to do. There is a Lake shore with lots of lovely restaurants and tasteful live music ( including a great pianist who plays near the ferry terminal most nights). There is a castle, a hop-on-hop-off train, and lots of classical Italian streets and shops in the Old Quarter of Arona. There is a ferry terminal with ferries that can take you to amazing locations on Lake Maggiore including to a number of small islands. There is a mainline train station with trains north to the foothills of the Alps or south to Milan and beyond. It appears to be a safe city, with a civilised night scene of people, couple and families enjoying walking along the Lakeshore promenade. A good location for people interested in boating also.

    Selected Arona for a few days due to its proximity to Milan (airport). It felt much quieter than Stresa and other lakeside towns further north, so suited us perfectly. Superb restaurants (to suit all budgets), friendly locals, lovely local shops (especially the bookshop!) and very easy to visit the lake and islands by bus, boat and train. Mid May seemed quite early in the (tourist) season but plenty of social events to attend. A lovely little lakeside town.

    There are a lot of places to stay around Lago Magiore.

    There are a lot of places to stay around Lago Magiore. Our preference is for a smaller town with a heart. That is Arona with reasonable pricing as well. The visits we chose were Santa Caterina del Sasso (excellent restaurant at the Vecchia Fontana), the Borromean islands, Verbania, Cannero Riviera, Cannubio (excellent restaurant at Antica Stellera). We also spent one day at Lago di Orta: the small ancient town is beautiful as is the Orta di Giulio island. On the hill dominating the village is the Sacro Monte di Orta, a UNESCO Humanity Heritage site and a nice restaurant (Ristorante Sacromonta Orta). Italy is its remarkable history, the unique scenic places, its warm welcoming people and … best food.

    Great charming town on Lake Maggiore. many restaurants along the lake front. Everyone was nice and helpful, many spoke English since they do get a lot of tourism. You can take the ferry boat to other towns on the lake. Overall it is very convenient. and I would recommend staying in this town over others if you are coming for a short stay or for going to airport .

    From Arona, it is good to travel by train and ship to different destinations. The port and the train station are right next to each other on the promenade, so I recommend a day trip from Arona by train to Domodossola and then the Centovalley train to Locarno, from where you can take a boat back to Arona. Arona is only a 40-minute drive by rental car from Malpensa airport. There are plenty of restaurants on Arona's beach street, but grocery stores are further along the main road.

    Wonderful place to explore lago Maggiore and the area. It's not just touristic location as some other villages on the lake side. You can live there as local. On other side it has also the lake promenade and all shops, cafes and restaurants needed for vacatin feeling. Very convinient starting point to explore the lake, train, boat or car - easy to cross the lake, reach other lakes in the near or ever go to the mountains. Highly recommend

    Arona is a nice town, so in overall I don't regret getting there. Also, the breakfast in the hotel was splendid, with probably over 50 kinds of pastries (but it's mainly a sweet breakfast).
