Lecco in my opinion, is a nice cheaper alternative to visit lake Como, with just enough things to not get bored. The center of it is nice, although if you go a bit more to the outskirts its industrial and not so nice/welcoming. I've seen many villages around Como Lake and still find Lecco great - conveniently located, with everything you need. I watched videos of what to do in Lecco prior to my visit. They really helped me to see and do interesting things. The place I selected to stay was right in the historic section which made that part easy, to see the historic part. That is also near the beautiful walkway along the lake. The trees give you shade and the walkway goes on and on. My partner attended a conference at the Polytechnic so he wasn't free to do things. It made no difference.
