Superb location, just on the main square, but very quiet thanks to double glass window. The room was very spacious, high ceiling, vintage style, but very comfortable. Very good breakfast. I can recommend without any hesitation!

The Hotel Sovestro is a lovely family ran hotel, all the staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. It was one of the cleanest hotelsI I have ever stayed in, amazing for a 3-star rated hotel. The breakfast was an Italian style breakfast, all the cakes and pastries, you would expect. But also, the cold meat, cheeses and eggs were plentiful and excellent. There was also a good variety of fruit, nuts and yogurts. The breakfast was excellent. There is a shuttle minibus that runs at certain times from the hotel to San Gimignano I would be happy to stay in Hotel Sovestro again.

Everything! The photographs don’t do justice to how beautiful this property is! The breakfast far surpassed my expectations from such a small property. Dinners in the hotel restaurant too was excellent. The gardens were beautifully landscaped and swimming pool was extremely clean and well kept. We weren’t driving and therefore used the hotel shuttle bus to go to San Gimignano, and it was super convenient. The staff were extremely helpful at all times! Great restaurant recommendations for San Gimignano by Simone at the reception.

FAQs about hotels in San Gimignano

A Tempting Tuscan Sun

San Gimignano, with the Italian sun glistening intently on its 14 remaining towers, cuts a dramatic figure from its position high on a Tuscan hill overlooking vineyards. However, it is when you get up-close-and-personal with this medieval-walled city and crane your neck to the blue sky that you truly appreciate its mesmerising beauty.

If you take away the swarming summer tourists circling the piazzas of San Gimignano, then this city offers you a wonderful trip back in time. The main square, Piazza della Cisterna, is surrounded by Romanesque buildings and Piazza del Duomo features Torre Grossa, the city’s tallest tower.

San Gimignano, originally an Entruscan village, was part of the ancient pilgrim route Via Francigena joining France to Rome. Its name was derived from the Bishop of Modena and is well known today as the Town of Fine Towers.

The 12th-century Collegiate Church of San Gimignano is a worth a visit with its wonderful collection of frescoes, and it also includes the Religious Art Museum.

Whether it is sitting on a restaurant terrace sipping some local Vernaccia wine or attending the lively Thursday Market, Booking.com has a range of San Gimignano hotels, guest houses and apartments for your stay. And just out of the city are options such as farm stays and country houses in the Tuscan countryside.

We liked exploring the entire City and were fastinated with the old buildings. Only negative comment would be fact you need to pay for the use of the washroom. Most were dirty and lacked toilet seats.

San Gimignano is a very vibrant town with lots of good eating places. You will queue for the good ice cream shops up in the square though. Be prepared for a long wait. Good that it's very pedestrianised but a bit slight hill at start may not be to everyone's capability. Good amount of different shops if you like that kind off thing. Market on a Thursday provides a different buying experience

San Gimignano is a beautiful little place especially before 9am and after 6pm when the streets are quieter. Between these hours it does get very busy as it is a popular tourist stop off. It is full of history and very easy to walk around. There are many places to eat and drink and lots of "souvenir" shops where you can buy wine, cheese, olive oil paintings etc. It is nestled in the countryside, nice for a walk or drive. There are buses too to take you to surrounding places including the train station at Poggibonsi (about 15-20 mins) and Sienna (just over an hour). Tickets can be bought easily from the taboccnist on the right-hand side as you walk up through town.

Spectacular location and view. The roof top terrace was quintessential Tuscany with its incredible view. Exceptionally roomy apt with separate mini-suites for 2 of the bedrooms, really exceptional. Large rooms and spacious overall. San Gimignano is a unique gem - a beautifully preserved piece of antiquity. Unfortunately, it is a bit overrun by tour groups during the day, but early morning and from late afternoon onward, it is truly wonderful. It's well worth a longer stay as there are interesting exhibits/museums, absolutely magnificent hikes in the breathtaking countryside, and easy day trips to places like Siena and Colle Val d'Elsa.

Casa Campatelli: we enjoyed this museum, which used to be the house of a well-to-do family. They tell you a lot about the town's history in the introduction video Pasticceria Armando e Marcella: the best pasticceria (acually, almost the only one) we found during our two weeks in Tuscany. We came back on another day to San Gimignano just for that. San Gimignano somehow has a special nice vibe comparing to other Tuscan towns. We also went hiking on Montauto loop next to San Gimignano. It is very versatile: you walk through forests, olive groves, orchards, villages, vineyards. It is said to be 6 km long on Komoot, but was 12 km according to our trackers.

We had an amazing four nights stay at Fattoria Sant’Andrea. The chef is unbelievable. Do yourself the favour and have dinner at the farm - you will not be disappointed. We had our best meal in Italy! On top of that the views from the estate are spectacular, the staff super friendly and the location great for exploring Tuscany. The owner Brando is extremely professional, helpful and kind. We can’t recommend this place enough and will definitely be back!
