This place is absolutely in walking distance of all the sights in Volterra - but you have to leave your car outside the city walls for 15€/night which is also no problem and in short walking distance to Albergo Ertruria. Daniele the owner is a treasure in this business, very friendy and absolutely helpful. Highly recommended 👍

The best place we’ve stayed in Italy so far! The host was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, making us feel right at home. The location is quiet and peaceful, with a stunning view. Every morning, we enjoyed an outstanding breakfast featuring new local and homemade specialities. Guests can also bring and enjoy their own food in the beautiful garden (note: no cooking facilities available). We highly recommend this place as a perfect base for exploring the abundant treasures and beauty of Tuscany. It’s just 1 km – about a 20-minute walk – from Volterra, and there are also some great hiking opportunities nearby.

It's a bit remote from Volterra, so you can not really go there by foot as we thought:-) However, the location is still nice with great and very helpful personnel. We enjoyed it a lot, thank you for welcoming us!

A beautiful little town to vitit in one day but a tourist trap in some ways.Mediocre glass of wine for €9 and platters with mediocre cold cuts and cheese platter. Let me give a little advice to the many tourists who want to discover Italian food: GO TO THE SOUTH (I want to say that I am not from the south), it's a little weird to see so many tourists eating pizza in Tuscany. What I really liked is their local “ little salty” beer. Of course there many beautiful places not very far from Volterra worth to visit: Siena, Certaldo, San Gimignano with much nicer sorroundings (obviously it's my personal opinion).

I had been there in winter some 30 or 40 years ago, disliking it. Was I wrong: Volterra is outstanding. The view over the Tuscan countryside is breathtaking. The Albergo Diffuso Volterra is magnificent, and their vegan restaurant absolutely worth a visit.

I spent two nights in Volterra and would have welcomed another night to visit sites outside the city walls. The museum of Etruscan antiquities is amazing, and I loved discovering workshops where craftspeople were combining ancient and modern methods in their work; first and foremost one where two women restore rare and modern manuscripts and books and registers, etc. and also do wonderful printing. The Palazzo Viti, a private museum, is devoted to the collections of a 19th century alabaster dealer who spent considerable time in India and who collected some wonderful examples of Chinese, Japanese, and Indian works in various media. As far as eating goes, I highly recommend the wonderfully friendly Osteria La Pace, which even makes its own bread, also Carabaccia, both recommended by the proprietor but very different in character.

I've been to Italy several times, including Firenze (...

I've been to Italy several times, including Firenze (Florence), but had never spent any time in the hill towns of Tuscany. A wedding invitation to Volterra and Villa Le Capanne allowed us to explore the wonders of this spectacular part of the country, enjoy its fabulous food and soak up its stunning scenery. What a treat it was to drive through rolling green hills from Pisa, exploring pretty places like Peccioli (astonishing art installations and tremendous views) and Lajatico (Andrea Bocelli's home town) on the way, and then to explore Siena and San Gimignano on the other side of Volterra too. Volterra is a "Goldilocks" town amongst others we explored - it's "just right" in terms of its size, the relaxed atmosphere, and the friendly and welcoming locals, the splendid selection of excellent restaurants, all while not being overrun with too many visitors (like us) as we saw in San Gimignano and Siena. For a taste of authentic Tuscan hospitality, Volterra might be the ideal place to start.

    We loved the town.

We loved the town. It offered stunning views of the Tuscan landscape. The restaurants and bars we visited served excellent food and drink. Volterra is a great base for exploring tho part of Tuscany. Parking was easy just outside the town walls. There are lots of places of historical interest within the town including the Roman Amphitheatre and the Etruscan Museum.

Beautiful, but truly 4 roads to roam.

Beautiful, but truly 4 roads to roam. Unless it’s operationally better, I wouldn’t sleep there. Perhaps because of the time of year (end Jan), but we struggled to find an open place for dinner even. Everything was quite at night, and much better by day but we had already seen most of the town by then.

Amazing Tuscan villa located near Volterra. Renzo is a fantastic host who makes sure you feel at home and enjoy your stay. The apartment is spacious and spotless, with everything smelling fresh. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need. The view from the bedroom is stunning — we loved waking up to the rolling Tuscan hills. In the evenings, you might even spot a deer wandering near the house. :) A perfect place to relax and fully immerse yourself in the Tuscan experience.

This a beautiful authentic tuscan family run hotel - perfect location as a short walk up the hill to Volterra town. if you have mobility difficulties , you will find the steep hill hard to walk up especially if in the summer months. Breakfast was a good continental choice of cereals, yoghurts, fruit , croissants, boiled eggs, ham and cheese. Croissants are freshly baked and warm. Great coffee . Lovely views ...Pool is great ! A large pool with plenty of sun loungers.

The hotel is very central, on a very steep hill (all of Volterra is very steep hills) on a very beautiful charming old street with excellent nearby shops and restaurants. The room was lovely, with a double bed and a single, and lots of luxuries like bathrobes and a bowl of candy . The staff were super helpful and generally great.

Very spacious property. We appreciated having a kitchen and laundry. The pool is lovely to cool down in July. Villamagna is a small town nearby with a friendly grocer and a great bar for coffees. The purpose of our stay was Andrea Bocelli’s concert in Lajatico, but we also enjoyed Volterra and San Gimignano while here.
