Izu is a wonderful varied destination with great food ,beaches and outdoor things to do ,It is a good place to go when you need a break from thee heat and crowds of summer in Japan.I very much recommend visiting Terrace Orange in Toi..It's a unique building built as both a tsunami refuge and community center with a lovely cafe and a restaurant with some of the freshest and nicest food on our trip .The architecture is fabulous and there is even a footbath acing the sea.Guest review byMichelleNew Zealand - 10.0

There is a more to explore here than we realized. Apart from hiking up hills for great views, we did not budget enough time for more sight-seeing. We had wanted to visit a wasabi farm but wound up at a wasabi market which was really cool with lots of wasabi based products - that was an experience in itself. It was a lovely small town, a welcome change from busy cities crowded with tourists. Very relaxing, beautiful hot springs in the middle of town, a charming temple and shrine surrounded by huge cedar trees. We stayed twi nights and really enjoyed it. From Shuzenji station you can take bus to a viewing area where if the weather conditions are right you can view Mt Fuji.Guest review byCynthia - 10.0

From the hotel, it was a lovely stroll to Shuzenji Temple nearby. What stood out to me most was the staff's genuine hospitality. They didn't speak much English but were very accommodating at all times. Neither my mom nor I eat beef, so with advance notice, they replaced beef with lobster. Beautiful, traditional architecture (apparently in place since 1872!), in lush greenery, set on natural thermal baths (you bathe in so called onsens, in natural warm water). Stay includes preset breakfast and dinner menus, which are Michelin quality and would cost you 100s $ in Europe or America. So value for money is great too, even if the sticker price may seem high. I love how the hotel is situated deep in the forests—the place is peaceful with a view of mount fuji from the room. The room is huge and beautifully furnished with a small tatami room and balcony overlooking the mountains. The haoris and yukatas provided are comfortable along with all the hotel ammenities. One of my friends forgot his ear-pods in the room and we had left Izu. The hotel staff quickly helped to send the ear-pods to our new hotel. Good view at the mountain and the stream from the room window. 4 private onsens for reservation and 1 public one. The futons are comfortable for sleep.
