Beautiful place and garden to stay with kids. They could play in the garden and forest around. From the house you walk easy to the most beautiful trails with impressive waterfall to the lake ( also accessible on the boat we could use, which is lovely) House was very clean and cosy. Also bbq facilities and terrace outside really nice. Very kind host. Super stay.

This place is a truly cocoon and a jewel. It is so amazing to wake up in the morning and to be able to look at the sea from the bed. Being at water level like that, surrounded by this raw nature, is truly extraordinary. I particularly appreciate the fact that only noble materials have been used. The link between the interior and the exterior is very coherent and also with a lot of simplicity. The place lacks nothing and is very well equipped, just like at home. Thanks again for all to Elin and all her family

Very good hosts, ready to help at any time. Beautiful and quiet place. The Basement has pretty much everything you might need for a long or short stay. Don't expect luxury but functional, comfortable and cosy. Better if you have a car, otherwise be ready for the rain and walks with mud, good waterproof clothes and shoes is a must to enjoy hiking and cycling. Take the boat and enjoy that beautiful lake!

Gamle Fengselet Kulturhotell has unique historic charm and modern facilities. I have stayed at other hotels at Stord, but the personal attention and service at this hotel sets it apart from other hotels on this island. Despite my short stay, I got to know the owners of the hotel, Asle and Hannah, who are both prepared to go that extra mile to make sure their guests are looked after and get the service they deserve. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable, with crisp and clean bedding. The bathroom was also spacious and it was well equipped, with classic but modern fittings. The breakfast, served in interesting "former prison" surroundings, was of good quality and plentiful, with a good choice of warm and cold dishes. The wi-fi was excellent too. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Stord, looking for a quiet but different stay in a clean and comfortable environment.
