Wonderful location high above the township of Akaroa but still with easy access to go for dinner. Perfect getaway stay. A wonderful walk that includes a super cute waterfall. The cabin is modern with a great bed looking out over the view. Would highly recommend this to anyone want a private retreat.

Much better than the photos!!! A great cottage in a lovely, quiet location. Such comfy seating in the open plan lounge. Huge TV! The main bedroom was perfect for us. I really liked that there were place mats to prevent any damage to bed side table surfaces and for the lounge.( I do travel with a couple of coasters- I know its a bit odd !!!) Good shower. The covered outside seating area was a fab place for relaxing with a good book.

    As it was winter it was quieter than in summer and we found...

    As it was winter it was quieter than in summer and we found this relaxing, calm, restful and were calmed by the experience. We loved being able to walk around the central part of Akaroa. We ate at several places and found good variety and quality of food. Loved the boat out to the dolphins and the Giants House especially. Also enjoyed the museum, lighthouse and Barrys Bay Cheeses.

    I can't believe we have not been to Akaroa before.

    I can't believe we have not been to Akaroa before. Such a well kept secret. A quaint town with lovely shops to browse. Beautiful waterfront to stroll along and jetties to explore. Fabulous views from every spot. Highly recommend including a stop in Akaroa in any road trip planning.

    Able to walk everywhere, very peaceful place in May, plenty of places to dine and able to sit outside enjoying the views, Mail Van ride a must. We had fantastic weather and would love to have gone on the sailing ship.

    The best holiday place in New Zealand. I have stayed in many places in and around Akaroa. Such a feeling of peace.plenty of cafes and fish and chips were a "must". It's a place where walking is great.

    Akaroa is always beautiful whatever the weather but we were extremely lucky to have glorious sunshine throughout our short stay. The views are wonderful and the possibility of getting out on a boat are great. The meal we had was okay at one of the pubs but many places were closed due to it being Anzac Day. Bought some amazing croissants at the bakery so breakfast was delicious!

    A very pleasant experience and welcome surprise. Had everything we needed, clean and tidy throughout. Private and nestled in bush with native birds to listen to- road noise was not an issue as was reviewed on another site. Stunning views, we enjoyed beautiful sunsets and sunrise on the opposite hills. The fire was the best feature, as it was chilly at times. Added bonus is the spa pool. Only a 2 minute drive to Akaroa. We recommend for a mini break.

    The hosts Gail & Brendon were extremely inviting and made us feel very welcomed. We had some great conversations over some drinks. Having use of the spa was a great way to end the day. The bed was also very comfortable. Then to wake up to an amazing view and cooked breakfast by the hosts themselves was the highlight of our stay at Newton Heights. Felt like luxury accommodation. Will definitely be back for a second stay.

    I asked Akaroa waterfront motels if they could get a few things as a surprise for my partners birthday, they went above and beyond and decorated the dining room with decorations, a basket full of goodies, and a birthday card. We will definitely be coming back to visit. Great restaurant 2 minute walk.

    Lovely spacious rooms, right opposite the sea at the quieter end of town. It's an older hotel, but well maintained and really clean, with big apartments and a nice courtyard. Staff very accommodating with my last minute change of plans. I'll be back!
